Seize The Day Monologue
I believe that each kid applied the lesson in their own way. Neil wanted to be in a play, Charlie wanted to get girls into the school, and Knox wanted to go out with Chris. Neil knew his dad would be infuriated and would probably punish him heftily, but he still did the play anyway and didn't think about the consequences that make come of it. Charlie wanted the girls into the school for obvious reasons and didn't care how much trouble he got in because he really didn't wan to be at the school anyway. Knox was stuck with the love bug the first time he saw Chris. He didn't care how stupid he looked in front of everyone reading his poetry. All he wanted to do was show Chris how much he loved her. Each of the boys definitely expressed the idea of “Seize the day”, but in their own ways, no-matter how anyone else looked at them. …show more content…
He put a article in the paper under the Dead Poet Society, and read his poem saying “I’m sucking the marrow out of life.” That act was more stupid than anything, because he gave away their club and could have even got all of them expelled. The next thing he did was tell the Dean the their was a call from him from god saying “You should let girls into Welton.” When he did this he made the board of teachers that the kid in the Dead Poet Society can be recluse. He also brought the girls into the cave with all of the boys during one of their meetings. This was not as bad as the other things he did, but if anyone would have found them their they would have all gotten into more trouble than if they had just been down there alone. Charlie did Seize The day, but he usually did it in a stupid

He is heavily influenced by Transcendental thinking and the Latin phrase "Carpe diem" (seize the day). Charlie transforms from a bored, nonchalant boy to a non-conforming, optimistic and daring person who renames himself Newanda. His spontaneity causes him to unexpectedly bring two girls to a Society meeting and declare that he has slipped in an article on behalf of the Dead Poets Society in the school newspaper demanding that girls be accepted into Welton Academy. He also becomes terribly spontaneous and daring and does not rationally consider the consequences of "seizing the day" and pulling the stunt of God calling and telling the headmaster that girls should be allowed to attend Welton. At this point, the quote "Speak what you think now in hard words and tomorrow speak what tomorrow thinks in hard words again, even though it contradict everything you said today" from Emerson is a powerful echo of what Charlie has done: expressed his opinions for what he strongly believed in and stood up for…

One of the most evident traits the boys in the movie demonstrate is selflessness, where they each give of themselves for the wellbeing of each other. For example, during a scene in the movie, Teddy Duchamp, the careless adrenaline junkie of the group, attempts to participate in the dangerous act of “Train jumping”. Knowing that Teddy could lose his life, Chris pursues him and forcefully removes him from the path of the train, thus saving his life. This portrays one major idea in the movie; their harsh childhoods establish the friendships they share with each other as the most precious gift they have, and this provides the incentive for them to do things for each other without personal gain.…
