My dad has always made it his goal to teach me how to be responsible, and that’s exactly what he’s done. I have watched my father run a growing carpet business for my entire life. He let my mom stay at home and take care five boys and took it upon himself to financially provide for us. Ever since I was little, I have had chores to do. If the chores were done, he would find some other job for me to do. I hated doing these chores and still do today, but I have learned that my dad was trying to teach me more than just discipline, he was teaching me responsibility. He set expectations for me and then taught me to work beyond them. For example, when I mow my neighbors lawns, I don’t just do what I feel is good enough, I take the time to do it right. I take responsibility in any mistakes that I may have made, and take pride in the good work that I do. Responsibility is a quality that is vital to success and I am glad to have been taught it.
While my dad is teaching me how to be responsible, my mother’s generosity and selflessness has shown me how to put the needs of others before my own. Mom has her own little business at home: taking care of five boys.
