Senior Speech
Who am I? What will people think of me? These are two important questions that will effect my future. The chapter of my highschool life is coming to an end and soon I will begin a whole new one. Being students at St. Thomas Academy, much is given to us. Mr. Ziebarth calling us “pansy-ass prima donnas” may actually be true, but after this year, the “country club” is over. I’ll be off by myself, and my best assets are the qualities and virtues that I have learned and experienced over the past 18 years. Each one of my family members has taught me a certain aspect that will help me in college and throughout my life.
My dad has always made it his goal to teach me how to be responsible, and that’s exactly what he’s done. I have watched my father run a growing carpet business for my entire life. He let my mom stay at home and take care five boys and took it upon himself to financially provide for us. Ever since I was little, I have had chores to do. If the chores were done, he would find some other job for me to do. I hated doing these chores and still do today, but I have learned that my dad was trying to teach me more than just discipline, he was teaching me responsibility. He set expectations for me and then taught me to work beyond them. For example, when I mow my neighbors lawns, I don’t just do what I feel is good enough, I take the time to do it right. I take responsibility in any mistakes that I may have made, and take pride in the good work that I do. Responsibility is a quality that is vital to success and I am glad to have been taught it.
While my dad is teaching me how to be responsible, my mother’s generosity and selflessness has shown me how to put the needs of others before my own. Mom has her own little business at home: taking care of five boys. Every morning she had to get up, make breakfast, make lunches, make sure everyone was dressed and ready and then drive us all to school. On top of managing five chaotic boys, she makes dinner

“Everything I have done in my life has been to provide for my children.” That’s what you’ll hear my dad say if you ask him about anything he’s accomplished in his life. He is a very proud and hardworking man. Even now, at 60 years old, he works harder than most 20-year-olds do. As a father he has always told us, “Nothing is handed to you; everything you have must be earned.”…

Senioritis: a common illness that is said to strike high schools across the nation and stand as an excuse for plummeting grades from the senior class. It is believed that seniors become incredibly antsy their last year of high school and are looking into the future for a solution to their bored life. Seniors also begin to question whether the classes they are taking are meaningful or not, while sloughing off the tension that comes with high school because they have been there four years and know the ropes. Not all seniors are sucked into this mindset, and many continue to further their academic success throughout their senior year. “Senioritis” brings up all of these points, but does not effectively support the points made.…

Now that I’m seventeen, I help my mom as much as I can when I get home from school by helping her clean, doing the laundry, etc. I wish I could do something economically now, but I’m positive I will in the future. She is my motivation to wake up every day and try my best with AP classes, extracurricular activities, and community service and hopefully become someone one day who will leave an impact on the world. I try to balance school and chores with a healthy mid set to complete all I have to do. I don’t mind doing any of this because it makes me feel content to know my mother doesn’t have as much pain tainted on her face. She believes that she has put too much work on my hands, but she doesn’t realize that these tribulations are helping me become an independent young woman who is realizing that she can accomplish anything in life. “Don’t worry. I can manage.” I tell…

Tonight is bitter sweet for me…bitter because my basketball career is coming to end and it really is hard to say goodbye to something you truly depended on through tough times and good times. Basketball has always been for them as well as my teammates and my coaches…its just hard to say goodbye. The sweet part is that this season isn’t over yet! I would like to thank a few people tonight. First off, I would like to thank God for giving me this opportunity to play basketball and allowing me to play with a torn P.C.L. in my left leg because most people would have to go through surgery or be enable to do sports in general. Words can’t describe how thankful I am for God giving me another chance to play this sport without any surgery. Secondly I would like to thank my dad for getting me into basketball. After a long day at work, you still managed to get me to practices and games. Not only that, I appreciate spending all of your summer weekends for majority of my life traveling everywhere for hundreds of tournaments. I know we both have had our differences and we both don’t always see eye to eye especially when you try to be my coach but you have always believed in me when I felt like nobody did and for that I’m more than thankful. But as I’ve grown, I’ve realized you just wanted to see me succeed and be the best that I can be. A huge, special thank you will definitely be for our coaches. Coach Clayton aka Teacon, you are a second father figure in my life and I’m so blessed that I have gotten the chance to be coached by you since the 4th grade on the court and off. You always believed in us more than anyone else, and you have shown more dedication than anyone I know when it comes around to coaching on the basketball court. Coach Eddie, I don’t know where we would all be if we didn’t have you to condition us. Coach Walker, thank you for always taking stats with my dad and having gum on you during the games! Also thank you to the fans (aka parents) that come out and…

    Effective Role Models

In my opinion, parents are the most effective and influential role models in the lives of their children. The youth of society can learn from, and aspire to be like their parents as they are being reared in their childhood years. Fathers and mothers strive to teach their children important values and beliefs as well as demonstrate attitudes and behaviors considered appropriate and beneficial for society’s well being. Parents strive to ensure that their children are successful in their efforts, both personally and socially. They stand tall, maintaining positive and nurturing attitudes. Good parents with effective parenting skills continually create important, life lessons because they understand, that as youth, children look to them for guidance. Parents pave the way for young people to build a bright future. They teach skills to their children so that they are able to sustain themselves in today’s society and progress. Children are society’s hope for a better future, for a thriving living environment in the world, and for inspiring the forward progression of the human race. There is no doubt that mothers and fathers are prime examples of effective role models.…

This year has been one of traditions ended. The fruit sale, fortunately too many of you, has come to an end. Seniors will no longer attend prom for free after this year. Omnium Gatherum was not organized this year. This year’s senior class leaves a legacy of broken tradition. If elected, I will ensure that our class leaves a legacy of new and exciting traditions begun.…

    Who I Am Today Analysis

    • 615 Words

My mother was the only one bringing an income into the household for me and my two siblings, so we didn't always have the money to do and get everything we wanted. However, we did have enough money for the things we needed. This definitely taught me to cherish the things I have and not to whine about the things I don't. Without that skill in my life i'm sure I would way less patient with just about everything and i’m sure I would be much more irritable. I am definitely a “homebody” and the fact that I have a small house and can’t always get what I want at home doesn't change that one…

Ever since I was a kid, my mother has always taught me to be strong and brave, no matter how hard a situation is. It doesn’t matter that I’m just a girl; she told me to never let others underestimate who I am. I’m always reminded of this especially since I was not born rich. I always see her working hard just to give our family a good life, alongside my father. She never complained, although I could sometimes feel the weight of her burden; she said that sacrificing for us will never let her down. She never let anyone tell her what to do, especially those who tell her she’s just a woman who should stay with her children and do chores. She chose to work because we are her top priority. Despite all her endeavors, her great love for us was what drove her. And every single day I see her, I’m reminded of the great woman who surpasses even the greatest men.…

    My Role Model: My Father

    • 391 Words

For example - At a point when I was failing in a subject of 12th standard, as I was not very good in academics. My father then had a long conversation with me about life; he told me that it would be smarter if I will study hard because, it would be easier for me to get a job and earn more money and that this was the best way I could help the family. He always tells us about what he went through because of not having the chance to concentrate on studies at all. By telling us this, he wants us to take advantage of what we have to have a better future. But what got my dad to where he is today was not from being lazy by no means but working hard and driving himself to become something better than what he was and to achieve his dreams. My father doesn’t only give advice about having a good future but also about morals. He always tells us that if I order for people to respect us we have to respect them at all times. To him having good morals is really important because not only does it make us do the right thing but also they will help us succeed in life. My father is a father that creates a great atmosphere…

My dad has always taught me that I have to work my hardest for whatever I want in life. My dad had me with his first wife, my mother, when he was seventeen. My parents had very little money to raise me on their own, so my dad went to work right away to help support his family. He gave up all his freedom and the fun on a teenage life to help support his family. My dad has been working at least two jobs at a time since the age of seventeen.…
