Senioritis is a plague that ravages our nation. High schoolers who have contracted this disease are ready for their senior year to be over. This epidemic has caused so many GPA’s to fall and many four point zero’s to be squandered. We haven’t found a solution for this issue. Possibly it is just part of human nature. A phase that we go through. No one will really know the answer.…
I still feel that I may not be good enough for this task that I have taken on, although I have waited a long number of years to be able to do this. I need to believe that with time and help I can make a good job of studying, and learn to enjoy it more.…
Seniors, you know when you are trying to do homework or anything that is related to school and your motivation level is like at 0%? Or when you get behind in school and you try to get caught up but your motivation to catch up is gone? This is a problem that affects many seniors today. What is this problem you might ask? This is a problem called “Senioritis.”…
Everyone forgets something at times. It may be where they put their car keys, a phone number they have known for years or what time an appointment is. This happens to people of all ages, not simply seniors. The elderly, however, often worry when this occurs and wonder if they are showing the early signs of Alzheimer's disease. Here are five questions to ask your doctor if you are concerned about forgetfulness.…
For most students, Senioritis won’t appear until the later years of high school, most likely the end of junior year and of course during the senior year. For the most part, I don’t think people just become lazy and de-motivated overnight but Senioritis is more of a thing that you adapt through your high school years. Many students try to make their senior year the easiest by doing everything they can for the first three years, so when their senior year comes around you’re not totally swamped with schoolwork. Usually, some seniors get out at the end of fifth period, and some are out of school after lunch. Despite contracting ‘Senioritis’ many students don’t get Senioritis because they’re just so pumped to get out of high school and keep moving…

By late adulthood none of us can dispute the physical signs of aging. As Erikson and colleagues (1986) have noted, “As the overall tonus of the body begins to sag and innumerable inner parts call attention to themselves through malfunction, the aging body is forced into a new sense of invalidness…The elder is obligated to turn attention from more interesting aspects of life to the demanding requirements of the body” (p. 309).…
What is Senioritis? It is a very malicious and spreading disease; it starts with laziness and can even go as far as you not caring about anything, besides getting out of school! Each student is required to write a research paper focusing on one area of gerontology that is of specific interest. Select an area related to older adults/aging that is meaningful to you or something that you have an interest in and would like to learn more about (this is part of your first paper assignment, due 2/7). Your final paper should provide an overview/brief history of your topic, why this topic is relevant in the aging field, who is affected by it and how, provide key definitions, discuss relevant theories (if applicable), discuss what is happening in the field/current research, elaborate upon challenges in the field, and provide future directions for research/practice. Your paper may also include additional sections. You will structure your paper in a way that is most suitable to your specific paper topic, and the second paper assignment (due 3/7) will help with this. I will be responsible for approving your final paper topic, and will also provide you with individualized feedback on your two final paper assignments, which will guide you on the development of your final paper.…
The first time I actually heard the word senior used to describe me, it was a very surreal experience. It felt as if I had waited my whole life to be called a senior and now I finally got my wish. Despite my yearning to be a senior, I never really thought about what the word "senior" really meant to me. The day I honestly started thinking about what the word meant I was in awe, for it had never occurred to me how fast time goes by, how in a few months I will be out of high school, and how I will never be in the same building or classroom with any of my classmates ever again. It also occurred to me that the dreaded disease known as "senioritis" is defined by the experiences and revelations a person has when they are a senior and that I was catching this disease rather quickly.…
Throughout the writing of my learning narrative, I realize a recurring theme in my paper. At each stage of my life I had always wanted to feel older and more grown up than I actually was. When I looked at the kids in the grades above me and the older athletic teams they seemed so much older and smarted than me. They always bragged and talked about how much harder the next grade or level was. Now that I am in college, I have realize that it is not how difficult the next level is. It is how much time and effort you want to put in to get the results you need; it is about motivation. Back when I was a child I would have looked at a nineteen year old in awe, thinking wow he must be so much smarter and wiser than me, yet now I feel that I know so little and have so much more to learn than I ever had before.…
I would like to work with Dr. Fulks, because of the research he has done with regards to gerontology and Alzheimer’s disease. This interests me because now that I am taking an introductory course, I see that gerontology would be something I see myself pursuing when I graduate from Barton. I would like to do research with Gerontology because older people interest me and I feel that I will be able to help care for and connect with them. In addition to my passion for helping older individuals, my grandfather was recently diagnosed with Alzheimer’s, which made me realize how much I want to help those with the disease. Through my gerontology 101 course, I am able to see a future for myself working with older individuals and I know that ultimately, no matter what I decide to do, older people will be involved in some way or another. Through just one semester, I have learned so much more about the population I will be working with and caring for. I have seen that conditions within facilities for older people are not what they should be, and I want to work to change that. I would specifically like to work with older adults who have…
The elderly population in India is continuously increasing and also the problems faced by these people are increasing simultaneously. The number of people in old age homes is constantly increasing and also most of the parents are now deciding to live in old age homes rather than living with their children. Nowadays these people are facing the problems like lack of care, emotional support and economic support from the family etc. Our culture recognizes the status of the parents as that of God. A moral duty is put on the children to take care of their parents. But nowadays what we are observing in our society is that the children are not willing to take care of their parents, they do not want to spend money on them, they are treating their parents as aliens, they do not want to share an emotional bond with parents. These children are forgetting that the foundation of their life is built up by the parents. They are forgetting their moral and ethical duties towards their parents. This is because of fast life, industrialization, money oriented minds, inflation etc. Children have no time to look after their parents because of their busy schedule and as a consequence of this situation the elders are getting neglected. At this age almost all the people need some kind of support.…
