Seventh Grade Research Paper
Seventh grade is a struggle for almost every student. It is a completely different atmosphere compared to what students have adapted to in their elementary years. My seventh-grade year started as a struggle, but after hard work and determination, it ended in success. I was a student at Bayou Academy and had been since kindergarten. I was always an honor roll student. It had never been a struggle for me to make good grades. Everything was about to change because of my seventh-grade English teacher, Mrs. Maria Johnson. Because of all of the journal writing in Mrs. Johnson's class, I am a better student today. Mrs. Johnson has always been known as one of the hardest teachers at Bayou Academy, but on my first day of seventh grade, I was able to experience just how good she lives up to her reputation. It was a very nerve-racking day for me, being in high school for the first time scared me. But, there was something else about this day that scared me even more and that was going to Mrs. Johnson's class. As I walked into her classroom for the first time, I realized I wasn't the only one scared. The students already sitting in their desks all had pale faces and looked as if they had seen a ghost. We were all scared of failure. The first day …show more content…
Johnson's class had been. I was no longer scared or anxious. We wrote in our journals twice a week for the rest of year and I never made a bad grade Throughout the year she challenged me in many ways, but because of her I now I have confidence in myself and drive for excellence, not only in school but in life as well. I would not consider myself a good writer, but she definitely made me into a better writer and because of that I am here today. One of the scariest days of my life had turned into a very successful day, the day I began to have confidence in myself. Because of all of the journal writing in Mrs. Johnson's class, I am a better writer

I believe that the state should not by itself have the power to declare war on another nation or country without the consent of the national government. the reason behind why I think this is because I believe that the government itself has enough power to keep the branches and there paper works in order and to do what is needed and expected of them to do nothing easel over that or under. I also believe that we south Carolinians if we do not like what north Korea is doing we should just stay out of it unless north Korea brings us into it and the reason I think this is because, us south Carolinians declaring war on north Korea just because we don’t like what they are doing is pretty stupid to me. I believe we are smart enough to figure it out without declaring war on a country or a nation.…

In the Homeric Epic, women are cast into one of two dichotomous roles: that of the wise and faithful or that of the foolish and disloyal. However in Atwood’s The Penelopiad these roles are deconstructed such that they become fluid as opposed to concrete—such that the women do not wholly occupy one role or the other but rather move on a balance beam between the two, sometimes leaning nearer to one lateral or the other but never resting on the end points of either side. In the unfettered world of The Penelopiad, woman are granted the voices that they are denied in The Odyssey; they are free to weave their own epic stories of cunning, captivity, danger, victory, and failure. The Penelopiad therefore gives rise to a “new” woman who is not bound by Homeric conventions that confine reader to a singular understanding of The Odyssey and its characters; rather Atwood unveils a myriad of possibilities, explanations, and motivations behind the events of The Odyssey as they are imagined by Homer. Our minds are opened to realities and potentials either unconsidered, or considered but immediately abandoned for lack of emphasis, by the readers. We are made to ponder what seem to be obscurities and minor inconsistencies in The Odyssey that upon deeper exploration and analysis serve to completely revolutionize the conventional reading of The Odyssey in terms of the female characters. Atwood accomplishes this impressive feat by exploring the “dark alleyways” that lead us to alternate, but plausible, conclusions as evidenced by the expressions of the muted cast of The Odyssey—Penelope and the twelve hanged maids.…

In the freshman year of fall 1994, Ms. Gruwell, who is later also known by her students as Ms. G, introduced herself through her first journal entry. Throughout her entry she wrote about the description of the school and its surroundings. Wilson High School is located in a safe area, but like Ms. Gruwell, you would have noticed that students from all walks of life attended the school. As a fairly new teacher, Ms. Gruwell expresses her nervousness through her entry by formulating questions that she thinks will arise when the students see her. “Will they think I’m out of touch or too preppy?…

My heart raced from the ridiculous amount of coffee I had consumed that morning. I tentatively stepped into the dark, empty classroom and took a seat in the second row. As an English major, I resented the fact that I was required to take US History 201. I disliked history, and I heard rumors that my professor, Dr. Grimm, was a tough grader. The only contingent that caused me to feel slightly happy was the fact that I would be in the same class as Hannah Colasurdo, my longtime best friend. I had known Hannah since I was ten years old, and she had been there for me though my best and worst moments. Little did I know that this history class would cause me to fall to one of the lowest points of my entire life.…

Elizabeth City State University, located in Northeastern North Carolina, has been victim to a lot of violence in recent years. These crimes have put students’ lives at risk; in recent events, an unknown person came on campus and started shooting, and luckily that day no one got injured. Another incident happened in 1984 when a female student was beaten and hanged in her dorm room. These are some examples of crimes that have happened on the university campus. While away at college, a student or parent should not have to worry constantly about a college campus not being safe and the safety of their child. It is up to the school faculty and leaders to help provide a safe environment for the students. The school should enforce security, have surveillance cameras, and checkpoints for visitors who come on campus, in order to make Elizabeth City State University (ECSU) a safer school.…

I did not think I could actually become a better writer. Somehow, after all the hours of writing, and putting effort into my papers that I wrote in this quarter, I became a better writer. I did this because I concentrated on two very important areas. With help from an awesome teacher and my partner, I have become a better writer by improving my skills in the areas of procrastination and content.…
