Moore’s English II class has taught me a countless number of things. English II took more determination and attention to earn an A in than most of my other subjects this year. In this year’s course, I have learned a lot about people and events in history that I had no knowledge of beforehand. Lessons on Joseph Stalin, Julius Caesar, and many more have educated me beyond belief. I feel that “Between Shades of Gray” is a book that will live in my memory forever. The terrible stories based on real events of what happened to so many people are things I will not be able to forget. In my future schooling, I hope to learn more about virtually voiceless events such as Stalin’s rule. It’s hard to wrap my head around the fact that an event as terrible as that one isn’t talked about nearly as much as Hitler or 9/11. I think the school system should change a little bit. I wish more teachers weren’t afraid to teach about things that aren’t exactly pleasant to talk about like Mrs. Moore did with Stalin and his actions. I think I can help make that happen by inquiring about things that need more light shed on them. I think the school and the teachers employed there can enlighten us about school related things, and still help us to learn new things about ourselves at the same time.
