Should Children Get Paid For Chores?
There is a disagreement among people about whether or not children should get paid for doing chores. Personally, I believe that children shouldn’t be getting paid for chores. Why should kids get paid to do chores when parents aren’t? It doesn’t make sense if you think about it. I mean, an allowance is okay, but having to pay your children just to keep their house clean isn’t a good idea. Anyways, I’ll be trying to prove why children getting paid for chores is a bad idea.
My first point is that chores aren’t like a paying job, and should be done regardless of a reward. You can’t put a price tag on keeping the house clean. My third point is that parents aren’t getting paid to do chores.
If parents aren’t getting paid to keep the house clean, then children shouldn’t get paid.
Even if they’re not getting paid to be doing chores, there’s still many ways to earn money. Like an allowance or helping out neighbors. My final reason is that parents would be wasting money to pay children. It would make more sense to hire a maid, just clean the house themselves, or just tell their kids to keep it clean. Parents shouldn’t have to bribe their kids into making their beds.
To be honest, I can see why children think they should be getting paid to do chores. Kids don’t have a very good understanding of employment. They probably think that their parents just do stuff in an office and get paid for it. I will agree on the fact that they can learn a valuable lesson from doing chores and getting paid for them. For example: learning how to handle money, appreciating what they buy, and learning how to handle their time.
To sum up, paying children to do chores is a bad idea. An allowance is fine,

“Chores allow children an early and sustained opportunity to experience responsibility. Independence and self-sufficiency in life are tied, ultimately, to mastery of two types of responsibility: personal responsibility and social responsibility” (Rowland, 2000, Brown University Child & Adolescent Behavior Letter, 16(6), 1). For the second film analysis, I watched "Girl Interrupted." The movie is about a teenage girl name Susanna Kaysen who has been diagnosed with Borderline Personality Disorder. People with Borderline Personality Disorder "are often emotionally unstable, impulsive, unpredictable, irritable, and anxious. They also are prone to boredom. Their behavior is similar to that of individuals with schizotypal personality disorder but they are not as consistently withdrawn and bizarre" (Santrock, 2005). In "Girl Interrupted" Susanna Kaysen the main character, goes through many episodes that give a picture of the disorder she's suffering from. The first such incident occurs when the psychiatrist is talks to Susanna about her failed suicide attempt. During the conversation, she is seen as confused and irritated by his presence. While the psychiatrist questions her, her mind seems to be somewhere else because she is having flash backs of her past, maybe a sign of ADD (Attention Deficit Disorder). Susanna seems to be uncertain about things, she claims that she does not know what she feels. She was taken to the hospital after she tried to commit suicide, she took a bottle of aspirin. Her reason for taking the full bottle of aspirin was major headache, which was also alarming to the psychiatrist.…
