100 kids fall asleep in school. Since kids are falling asleep, they are not getting their education that they need to know. So when a test comes up they will fail the test. Secondly, waking up early is bad.
According to Healthy Hours “Insufficient sleep in teens is associated with obesity, migraines, and immune system disruption and with health risk behaviors, including smoking, drinking, stimulant abuse, physical fighting, physical inactivity, depression, and suicidal tendencies.” Kids should be getting 8.5 to 9.5 hours of sleep but ⅔ of high schoolers are getting less than 7 hours of sleep. According to Healthy Hours “ About 10% of U.S. high schools start the school day before 7:30 a.m., 42.5% before 8 a.m., and only 14.4% at 8:30 a.m, or later.” This is why waking up early is bad for kids. However, you might think “If we make school start later there would be less time that kids get their education.” While schools can end later or we can cut down recess. “If kids are not getting the hours they need why can’t they just cut down on the TV or phones and they should make bedtimes.” However kids love being on their phones or on the TV and they will not listen to bedtimes because they are not tired. This is why schools should start later in the morning. In conclusion, schools should start later because kids can get the hours they need to sleep. Kids should sleep 8.5 to 9.5 hours a day. Waking up early can improve obesity, migraines, and more. Waking up early will can keep students from getting the sleep they need for health, safety, and academic success, according to the American Academy of Pediatrics. This is why schools should start
later.
