Is the fast paced, on the go lifestyle for you, or do you prefer a relaxed and slower take on life?" Living in a small town, like King City, CA, there are many downfalls or perks that big city dwellers may never understand or appreciate. The same can be said for living in a big city such as Los Angeles, CA. While the similarities are obvious, such as them both have schools, doctors, and family based communities. Many of their differences can be up for debate. Living in a big city, the possibilities are endless, no matter what one is in search of. Rarely are there opportunities to be bored, without anything to do. Living in a small town one finds themselves having to drive a significant distance in order to get somewhere, or one must get creative. While small town King City C.A., and the big city Los Angeles, C.A. have their similarities, they also have a wide range of differences some more obvious than others.
Growing up in King City, CA there was never any shortage of sunshine but rather a shortage of outdoor activities. There are only three parks here: the San Lorenzo Park, the City Park, and the Skate Park. The San …show more content…
Lorenzo Park is located on the edge of town and along the Salinas River, with plenty of grass to relax or play on, and a jungle gym. It is a great place to let the kids run around. But being along the river, it attracts many wild animals such as mountain lions and raccoons. The City Park is located in the heart of town and includes the City pools, and little league baseball fields. The skate park is relatively new, built in 2005, with another grass field for youth soccer. All of these parks are located on a three miles radius from one another. Much of the residents would rather drive the hour or more for better, more fun outdoor activities, such as water parks, or going to the beach, with little to no traffic. While one is living in Los Angeles, CA there are endless opportunities for fun out in the sun, especially if you have a family with small children. With nearly 52 parks in the Los Angeles area, no matter where one lives there is a variety of parks to choose from. While there is a major difference in the amount of parks, there is also the difference of amusement and water parks in the area. Roughly 23 amusement parks in the surrounding areas, from Universal Studios Hollywood, Sherman Oaks Castle Park, and Disneyland, the outdoor fun is endless. Although all of these activities are available to all and easily accessible to those who live nearby, at times traffic can add half an hour to what would have been a fifteen minute drive.
While winter months in King City, CA are not relatively harsh, they can be colder than we are used to, which leaves us with indoor activities.
Due to the town’s location and population (13,169), there is only one museum which is located in the San Lorenzo Park. The Monterey County Agriculture and Rural life Museum have six buildings as a part of the exhibit and covers life from the late 1700’s to 1940. Being that other museums are an hour or more in travel, many school field trips take place at this museum. The nearest mall being an hour away, in order to go shopping, one must travel and make a day of the trip. But if one has a family with children, an hour car ride is not as simple or easy as it may
sound.
For the rainy days in Los Angeles, CA, as rare as they may be, there is still no limit on fun indoor activities. There are numerous museums that range from historical landmarks such as the La Brea Tar Pits to entertainment like the Automotive Museum. There is an activity for all ages, and interests. Appearing to the youth and women, shopping is available at nearly every corner. There are several malls, indoor and outdoor, located throughout Los Angeles, in which one will surely find what they are looking for. Growing up in King City CA, if one friend moved from one side of town to the other, they would still be in the same classes. Although there are three Elementary schools, there is only one Middle school and one High school. For many that have lived their whole lives in King City, they have grown up with one another, in the same schools. Living in such a small town, the options for an extracurricular activity, and more in-depth learning of a specific topic were slim.
When one lives in Los Angeles CA, the school one goes to is determined solely upon where they live. Los Angeles is a very large city which is broken up into several smaller towns, to name a few Pasadena, Santa Monica, and Culver City. Each school is broken up upon districts, and there may be several districts in one small town within Los Angeles. Along with more schools, they also have a larger opportunity for extracurricular activities and a more in-depth focus of a specific subject. In conclusion, the differences of King City CA and Los Angeles CA are huge, but so are their similarities. King City is a slow paced town that is community oriented, while Los Angeles is fast paced and filled with business oriented people. While options for sun and entertainment are limited in a smaller town, living in a big city there is always plenty to do. Having a family or just being single can have all the impact on what one may choose to do with their free time and their location. Depending on one 's chosen lifestyle, is the determining factor of where one should live.
