This leads Oedipus to be a tragic hero by him having a hard time believing Tiresias.
This is Oedipus tragic flaw because he is discovering his faith and what really happened. He then tells Jocasta what Tiresias told him. Jocasta replies to him that the prophecy is false, “Listen to me and learn some peace of mind: no skill in the world, nothing human can penetrate the future”. Messenger then comes tell Oedipus that he is not really the son Polybus. The messenger goes by telling hi, that he was found and got taken in because king Laius didn’t want the prophecy to come true because it said he son was going to kill
him. It advances the story by Oedipus wanting to know the truth of what happened to him as a baby. The theme is the faith or free will, and he did not have free will because he had no choice. His faith was already chosen. The tragic flaw was he killed his father and slept with his mother. That was a tragedy he also had power and was very good to the people, until his flaw that he found out the truth. “ Take me away, far, far from Thebes, quickly, cast me away, my friends this great murderous ruin, this man cursed to heaven, the man the deathless gods hate most of all”. Oedipus wants to be exile for all the bad things he did. In Oedipus Rex there was a bunch of different tragedies. Tiresias was the character that leads him into being the tragic hero. Having too much knowledge can hurt someone because he wanted to know the truth. Oedipus for being eager, Tiresias didn’t want to tell him the truth but Oedipus threatened him, so Tiresias told him the truth about his parents. He went to being a king to having nothing and being exile. “If is not the man he says you are, believe me you were born for pain”. He is not perfect that’s what makes him a tragic hero and has to face his consequences for his actions.
