Solution to Writing Problems Both texts “Shitty First Drafts” and “Why I Revise” are about why it is necessary to review your writings before using them. “Shitty First drafts” gives the authors thoughts off to explain on why first drafts are necessary. “Why I revise” is about how revision is a necessary step in order to help one become a better writer. “Shitty first drafts” explains throughout the story about how unlikely it is that someone will just write something amazing, it gives examples including a writer sits down feeling good and just writes, then explains how rarely that actually happens. It says that the writer should write whatever comes to mind because something useful might happen but you might never get to that point if you don’t write everything. This story even goes as far as to say that the person who writes perfectly the first time has god on their side, further suggesting how rarely it occurs. According to the author “almost all good writing begins with terrible first efforts.” In other words its saying that even if your first draft is shitty there is still hope for it. Just go through it and scratch the bad or unnecessary parts then you may reach a final product you view worth showing the world …show more content…
The author uses himself as a example throughout the story as a writer who uses revision to allow the reader to understand what the meant to say versus what they actually said in their writings. He also states that “we are afraid that a paper that must be revised is a bad paper” this is true, people are scared of criticism and as a result if their work is criticized it must be bad work. When in reality they just need to make their ideas and arguments more clear for the reader to understand the point they were trying to get
