The impelling conflict is that Sister Beauvier, the principle, believes that Father Flynn is having an inappropriate relationship with one of the students at her school. Sister James also has a conflict within herself. She has to decide which side to take and believe.
2. In one sentence, what is this film about for you? In other words what is its theme? What does the title refer to?
For me, one of the themes in this movie is loyalty. I say this because due to the conflict Sister James has, she has to choose either to be loyal to Father Flynn and believe what he is saying is true, or be more loyal to Sister Beauvier and help her get ride of him from the school. The title connects to Sister James quite a bit. This is because she becomes very doubtful about whose story to believe.
