    Roller Skate Man Analysis

The poem “Roller Skate Man” by Raymond Souster is about a legless man who gets around on a block of wood strapped to roller-skates. The central purpose of this poem is to make people realize that the way disabled people are treated in society is wrong. That is because the author/narrator describes the man to be physically unappealing by using words such as: “shrivelled body”, “freak” and “big head”. The words used to describe him are based on what society thinks of this particular person. It takes place sometime during the rush hour because in the second verse the author says “…speed between silk-stockinged legs...” meaning that he is speeding through many people. Also, in the second verse, the geographical setting is given by the author “…Queen Street…” Also, the fact that the man is clamped on a block of wood and uses his gloved hands to propel himself tells us that he is poor because he cannot afford a wheelchair to go around the city. Lastly, the central idea of this poem is to overcome obstacles no matter how big.…

It is my pleasure to introduce you to our latest inductee to the National Cowboy Hall of Fame. It is said that this man is unbeatable. He has won eight world titles--six in tie-down roping, one in steer roping, and one all-around-cowboy award. Not only did he claim those honors, but he also set the world record for most money earned in a rookie season and claimed the all-around rookie cowboy title in 1976.…

Okay my current event is on the california bullet train. This train will go from San Francisco to Los Angeles. The state senate just recently gave 8 billion dollars for the first part of the 130 miles of track and also a couple other local transit upgrades. It was a tough win for democratic leaders because they got the bare minimum of 21 votes which were all democratic votes. This was a victory for Governor Jerry Brown and the Obama administration who have been pushing for this. It would also be the first bullet train in the U.S. The train will begin construction in the central valley from Bakersfield to Madera, which will cost about 5.9 billion. Out of the 5.9 billion, about 3.2 billion is federal money and 2.6 billion is state bonds. The…

It is the primal urge amongst male teenagers; put the pedal to the floor and see who wins. It is street racing and it has caught on in the U.S. over the past decade as one of the worst influences on young impressionable minds today. “Gymnastics taught me everything - life lessons, responsibility and discipline and respect.” Shawn Johnson was my idol while I was doing gymnastics. She motivated me to work harder on every event and one day be able to compete. I first started off by doing basic tumbling on the floor. My coaches would teach me new skills and spot me on them. They introduced me to floor, bars, beam, and vault. I thought that going to gymnastics a couple times a week would make me achieve new skills.…

Gymnastics has been a sport that I have always loved. When gymnastics is broadcasted on T.V, especially during the olympics, my eyes are glued to the screen. The high level gymnasts fly like birds while tumbling and on the uneven bars. From experience, I know that gymnastics is a sport that requires every muscle in your body. Gymnastics is also a sport that consists of insane amounts of time put into practice, and as a result, you’re sore and in pain a lot from all the hard work you’re putting in. Although, when it’s all said and done, it’s one of the most amazing feeling’s being out on the floor performing the routine you worked so hard to perfect, and then standing on top of the podium winning the first place medal.…
