small group communication
INTRODUCTION
Effective communication skills are an essential and necessary tool in dealing with conflicts that may arise in a group setting. It is important to work together with others, because it takes the team as a whole to get an A, not just one person. Teamwork is a problem solving group of people who have a variety of skills and strengths brought together to obtain the most perfect solution.
PROBLEM
I noticed a couple of sources of conflict in my team and was concerned with the lack of communication in the beginning stages of our project. Having many different points of view on how the project will develop and who does what can be tricky. Disagreements about member’s roles, breakdowns in communication and personality clashes can cause negative results, such as goals and tasks not being met. Taking the correct steps will dictate the overall success of the group as a whole. I will diagnose the problems I have encountered within the group and provide some solutions that will potentially resolve these internal issues.
SOLUTION
The focus will be on developing effective communication, teamwork and building up morale. Many individual skills and strengths are present within each member. The need to implement these assets and motivate each individual is the obstacle. Each member plays a significant role and if the roles are not clearly defined and there is no structure, problems will surely arise. By determining natural ability, people will automatically fall into the role that best suits them. Positive reinforce-ment along with a shared desire for a successful outcome assists with creating a positive working environment as well as group solidarity. In order to determine each role, I suggested we meet and requested that each member bring their personality profiles, which had previously been completed on another assignment. After evaluating the outcome of each person’s assessments together, we were able to designate tasks accordingly. Norms, which
