Abstract: This essay discusses how different aspects of social media affect children, adolescents, and adults. A collection of studies and research show proof that social media, such as texting and social networking have a huge impact on the social behavior and lifestyle of people of all ages. Before researching, it was hard to realize how big the role of the social media is in people’s lives; however this research reveals the massive impact we allow social media to have on our behaviors and everyday life.
Social Media Impacting You At the end of 2012, the number of active users on Facebook reached over one billion. At the end of 2012, the world population reached 7 billion people, (How many are there, 2013). This means that approximately one seventh of the entire world population consists of active Facebook users. Facebook is only one of the many active social networks today, and social networking is only one of the many ways that allows social media to play an enormous role in the social behavior of people. The rapid rise of internet and technology access is creating a huge increase in the amount of impact social media has on the social behaviors of people. The excessive use and reliance of social media has been proven to affect the social behavior of children, adolescents, and adults. Children are affected by the social media much more today than ever before. At younger and younger ages kids are learning to use tablets, computers, and cell phones, as they become more and more involved with the social media. This becomes an issue when this access to social media begins to affect the behavior of children. With access to an internet that contains nearly anything you search, children are often exposed to media that contains violence, and hostility.
