Although there are those that argue that social media has changed the way we interact with others and the way we speak ,i think social media has helped us in many ways. Social Media has helped us keep a stronger relationship with friends, and family that moved away to another state or country, help spread the word on small/big businesses, and help keep us updated on what's happening all over the world.
Even though many may argue that the culture of social media is changing us, it is believed that social media is helping us keep a better relationship between our friends that have moved away. Many may say it's not true, but it is. For example, the article “ Has Social Media change the way we speak and write English” states “great when it means we’re keeping friendships alive over great distances, but it’s also increasing the demands placed on an individual to keep a much larger number of relationships going simultaneously.” Therefore the culture of social media does help in keeping long distance relationships. The impact that social media plays in our everyday life is extraordinary but for some there are mixed emotions. Some culture such look down upon social media because it could be dangerous or even discourage you away from your beliefs. It could impact an entire family or have people find out information about you that should be private. I feel for the most part most cultures rely on social media as much as the mainstream society. It’s an easy and inexpensive way to keep in touch with friends and families across the globe. Besides the Amish and some Middle Eastern cultures I find the it helps to better know your friends and help you to meet new ones that you would of never met if it wasn’t for social media.…

“Today, with recent advances in Technology, people can maintain their social networks electronically; they don’t need face-to-face contacts (Schaefer, 2012,119).” For myself personally, social networking has been an important part of my life for this past year. My Husband is in the United States Coast Guard, so his job requires us to relocate to different stations mainly across the United States. Relocating is always a big adjustment, because not only are you in a new environment that you know almost nothing about, but you also have to leave your family and friends behind. “Whether through text-messaging, handheld devices, or social networking sites like Facebook, a significant amount of networking occurs online (Schaefer, 2012,119).” Without Social Networking sites like Facebook, it would make the relocating even harder, because having Facebook we are able to keep up with the lives of our family and friends-and vice versa-even though we are hundreds of miles away and rarely get to see them.…

Social media has definitely made it easy to stay connected with friends. I am the type of person who likes to be there in person with people to get actual face time with people. I like to be around people, travel, and communicate in person. So social media is definitely a compliment of staying connected. But it is not a replacement. You cannot give your friend a hug, or actually, kiss your lover on the cheek on social media. But it is a great way to keep continuity in relationships that are long distance, like with friends whom I’ve met at basic training a couple years back. I still stay in touch with a couple of them.…

Our need to love is fulfilled through intimate social experiences; a feeling of belonging. Assisted by social media such as Facebook and Twitter, people are able to make more connections than ever before, in addition to maintaining existing relationships, new one are formed as it is easier to join groups of like minded people to share ideas and experiences fulfilling our need to belong. In addition to social media, smart phone technology has also been a godsend for me, with a hectic work schedule I rarely find time to pen a letter or talk on a landline, my friends would all agree that I did a terrible job of maintaining friendships. Now that my friends are just an app away, I find that I reach out much more frequently than I did previously, resulting in a deeper level of intimacy than I provided them previously. With the assistance of Facebook, I have also made connections with family members I might never have know existed, since at 3 years old my father was separated from his large sibling group, never reconnecting in person.…

Perry Patetic says that transportation is why, “...often we lose track of old friends we never see again.”(4). This highly mobile society creates a tremendous distance between people that makes having a close relationship inconceivable. A close relationship over distance is perfectly conceivable and can be even easier than walking across the street, the solution is social media and VoIP. These things allow for advanced communication between any number of people from any distance. VoIP (Voice/Video over Internet Protocol) allows face to face communication with people one may have moved away from. Social Media is a bit more general and indirect form of communication, but combined with VoIP they can be used to maintain a close relationship with someone from around the world. Technology has given us this transportation, and it has also given us the solutions to any problems it may…
