Introduction- talk about social media in general

Dear parents I will explain my argument between my friend and I over Snapchat, I have to explain what social media is. In the beginning of the 21st century, we were introduced to MySpace and Facebook, but that all changed in the 2010. Our generation was Introduced to Snapchat, Instagram and Tinder. Social media is embedded in our generation's mind, if you have a phone most likely you are connected by either snapchat or Facebook; social media is a way to connect with your friends over the internet like an email. We see the difference in generations within the reaches of technology. Recent generations are developing with a mindset that demoralizes their privacy, thinking that flaunting their actions will increase one's social status. To begin, what is Snapchat? It is a photo and video messaging application that launched in 2011. Snapchat is unique because all photos and videos only last a brief amount of time before they disappear forever, making the application ephemeral. Though you can take

I can understand why snapchat is affecting the youth negatively. Using you phone makes you focused in a specific moment and takes you out of the overall experience. People are more worried about the perfect photo than being at the event. In this time of age if there's no photos it did not happen, if you went to Coachella and you took no photos and you said you went to Coachella no one would believe you. It's a must to use snapchat for the proof that you were at the concerts, sport events, or even a party. Also going back to sexting, the company of snapchat keeps all records of photos, videos and messages so nothing is completely erased. People can hack their iPhones and view the photos and videos endlessly and save them if they desire to. We must be careful about what we send over any social media because there is always an underlying catch to these social

Though an extremely new medium, social media has seemed to completely alter the way Americans think, especially among the Millennial generation. It is another perfect example of how our lack of sense and reason has transformed something that was designed to increase our social capabilities into a way to rant, boast, and bully. Instead of using social media to communicate and connect positively, our society has used it to create countless issues and distractions that only deter and detract from developing our social…

Our generation was the first introduced to the different forms of social media. Most of us have had a Facebook since middle school, making us the youngest people on there. Ever since we were little we have been raised with social media in our lives. It has been a part of us since we were even able to use a computer. The documentary shows a groups of “friends” sitting at a dining room table all with their own lap tops asking each other for their opinions on their profile pictures and cover photos. As hard as it is to watch and believe, that really happens in real life. Even between my groups of friends we all ask each other for approval on the pictures we post. We say things like “is this cute?” or “do you think I’ll get a lot of likes for this?”. We are so obsessed with getting “likes” on our posts and pictures that we literally have to get approval from our friends to post things instead of just posting the things we enjoy. Getting “likes” in this generation, is some sort of self-esteem booster for kids in our generation. A lot of likes on a picture genuinely makes people happy and brings joy to…

Look around—are there flying cars, personal robots or hover boards? The answer is hopefully no; however, the technology that is available matters. Current technology varies from wearable tech to mobile and recreational drones. Customers are complex individuals. Therefore, marketers cannot just categorized based on one demographic, especially when Generation X members are on Snapchat and Millennials read books in print. Do you know who your customers are?…

One of the positive sides of Snapchat is that it is used to keep in touch with friends and allows you to see each other instead of just sending messages. If your friend lives far away from you it is another great form of communication. Also, it is a great way to keep track of your memories. Everywhere you go or do something with someone you can take pictures and save them. Plus you get to have fun with all the filters that can affect the pictures.…

However, the authors inform us that that is not the case. In fact, they state that most teens use social media for good and I believe that that is the most profound point of this chapter (p. 34). Even with cyberbullying being as prevalent as it is today, it is still not the norm, making the take home message from this chapter being that the benefits of social media outweigh the risks. These benefits include things such as giving teens a way to feel connected to their peers, a way to discover who they are as a person and what they believe in, as well as giving them a platform to express themselves that makes them feel as though they are being heard and taken seriously (2015). One quandary that teens experience is a desire to stand out and feel unique, while still desiring to fit in with their peers and feel like they are a part of the crowd; being a part of the smartphone society allows teens to do just that. While this chapter emphasizes how social media benefits teens, the authors surprisingly did not mention any specific instances of these positive experiences that teens have had. Throughout the chapter, they provide 8 different quotes from kids that have experienced the negative effects of social media; however, they did not supply any quotes for positive experiences. In a chapter that focuses on the benefits of a smartphone society, I…

All kids talk about today is Snapchat. Snapchat is a social media app where you can post pictures to express you emotions and show what you are doing at the moment. Although Snapchat sounds like a fun app, there is a darkside to the app. Well some downsides about the app is that teenagers use Snapchat for sexting, and distracts the teenager from the rest of the world. The app also lacks responsibility for it’s users security because hackers can easily track someone from using Snapchat. A topic that is being discussed through parents is that if their teenager should have Snapchat. I believe that teens should not have Snapchat. Even if the pictures gets deleted after 10 seconds, it will always stay online.…

Social media not only allows teenagers to consume information on sexual activity, but also to produce it. Cell phones, Facebook, Twitter, MySpace and other social networking sites allow teenagers today to connect with people faster than ever before. Because of things like sexting and sending nude photos, it accelerates the connection making part of the relationship and being more intimate. It is easier for teenagers today to “hook-up” than in decades past for that reason. These behaviors have become familiar routines in the daily social life of teenagers.…

In today's technology driven world, 76% of teens use social media. Social media plays a big part in my friendships. Some people say digital communication is a detrimental way to communicate, while others say it is beneficial. "A typical teen sends 2,000 texts a month and spends more than 44 hours per week in front of a screen" ("Is Technology Killing Our Friendships?"). The technology of electronic communication brings us closer together, helping our relationships.…

Because this behavior is such a social norm, teenagers can get caught up in creating another world inside their phones; a world where self-esteem is created by likes and positive stimuli. According to an article from Pennsylvania State University, “An individual will post photos that are outside their character just to seek approval through likes from their peers.” The article then goes on. “This may boost an individual’s self-esteem temporarily, but once he or she logs off social media their self-esteem really hasn’t improved” (Penn State). This quotation accurately describes the “epidemic” that social media has on teenagers. They crave attention, but the release of dopamine that comes with the positive attention is only temporary, causing them to crave it again and again, leading to a false sense of…

Social media is where people interact with others, share personal information and keep up with the latest trends and news. These days however, it is becoming the main form of communication for many. Recent technological innovations, such as social media networking sites has been said to alter the way in which we communicate and the interaction we obtain face-to-face. This topic basically comes down to who and how social media is used. The two works of literature by Sherry Turkle and danah boyd, show conflicting opinions about the subject. There is no question by either author about the impact of social media on how we communicate. Rather the main point of issue is social media making a positive or a negative impact. Sherry Turkle in the introduction of her book “Alone Together: Why We Expect More from Technology and Less from Each Other” argues that social media is making us hide behind the screen rather than actually communicating with one another. However, in danah boyd’s introduction of her book “It's Complicated: The Social Lives of Networked Teens,” she explains that even though teenagers are using social media more and more, its actually keeping them more connected. Although social media clearly has made an impact on how we communicate, it does not damage the way we make, sustain and understand relationships.…

In todays society it seems as if everybody is connected to social media somehow, especially us college students and young adults. It’s a way for us to connect with friends far away or even nearby. The thing is, social media is destroying young adults mentally and physically because it’s disconnecting them from the physical world. Texting, emailing, tweeting, and facebooking have become the preferred forms of communication for many young adults in the past 10 years and shows no signs of slowing down. We’re now in a society where interacting online has become the social norm. You’re probably more likely to speak to friends and family through electronic devices…

The app was supposed to be a place that was full of privacy and insurance that the sender was in control of what happened to their pictures or text. Spiegel did this by putting a built-in-alarm that would go off if someone ‘snapshotted’ or saved your photos. At first, Evan Spiegel and Bobby Murphy spread the app around to friends at Stanford University and displayed it a ‘sexting’ app. However, Snapchat didn’t become popular until it hit the high school ranks. We can only imagine why this is but it is most likely so teenagers can privately have conversations without prying eyes of other classmates or parental figures. As far as we know, Snapchat made its way into the youth division because Spiegel’s mother told his cousins about the app and from there it took off. In addition to Snapchat’s popularity in youth, it was used more for messaging or sharing video’s or pics, rather than ‘sexting’ inappropriate…
