Social Welfare In The Military

I chose Social welfare as my major because as a young leader in the Army I gained great satisfaction in helping soldiers and their families better adapt to military life by introducing them to all the social programs the army had to offer. Programs such as the army community service which helps young soldiers take care of their family’s immediate needs by helping the soldier’s family with life essentials such as food and clothing. Also I have taken great pride in assisting soldiers in acquiring emergency funds to help them in times of emergency, such as when an immediate family dies and the soldier has no money to travel the Army Emergency Relief program is there to help by giving the soldier a no interest loan to help with the travel expenditures.
These life experiences shaped and played a major factor in my decision to become a social worker. My plan is to complete my DTA this June and enroll in the University of Washington Tacoma social welfare program this coming fall quarter. I believe my drive and determination will serve me well in succeeding in all the classes necessary to graduate with a Bachelor’s Degree by 2018. Moreover, looking forward my long term goal is to obtain a Master’s Degree in social welfare, graduate and seek employment with the Veterans Admiration and or the Madigan Army Medical Hospital on Joint Base Lewis-McCord as a community social worker. I believe that I can make a difference if given the opportunity to help people that have similar experiences I have.
