Personal Statement: Leslie-Ann Mcgeough
I am applying to study a degree in Social Work at the College of Arts, Celtic Studies and Social Sciences in University College Cork. My desire to work towards a career in social protection comes from the fact that I have a passion for helping others, am people focused and I feel that social workers make a positive difference in people’s lives in a professional supportive way. The daily demands that a social worker faces are in my opinion much more nuanced and tasking compared with other more traditional careers. The prospects of a career in which so much can be demanded from a person fills me with a sense of anticipation and a drive to succeed not only in undertaking this degree program but also in my

I will do this through examination of reflective accounts recorded during the placement learning opportunity. I believe that the use of reflection has been very significant in enhancing my personal skills and learning about my own values. In the essay, The Myth of Sisyphus, written by Albert Camus, Camus speaks on the meaningless of life and how an individual must first realize that life has no meaning at all in order to find happiness.
