Soil stabilization
Soil is one of the main elements in the environment, it covers most of the dry part of the Earth's crust, and the content of the materials, including salts, it is very important for the green vegetation cover on earth.
On the other hand soil is one of the main components of construction, study of soil in the workplace is one of the first steps in the beginning of the project, and the lack of knowledge of soil characteristics and types and how to deal with it may lead to the failure of projects in some cases.
Thus, from this perspective, soil had its own science to study its types, its characteristics and how to improve it, and what are the additions that can make a better result for the soil and thus to the whole construction project. When soil is used in construction, in addition to stability is also important as differential settlement may have bad effect to the project. Compacted soil and stabilized soil are often used in sub-base or base course of highway pavements and also the other constructions. The soil is considered as one of the most important and principle construction materials. This research is all about the addition of two chemicals into the soil, then study the properties of soil after each addition, and then compare the properties of the soil without additives with the properties of soil after each addition of these two. In English, there will be three samples of soil plus the Soil as control sample, each sample of these three will be divided into two, one of these two parts will be added to silica fume, and the second one will be added to lime, and then the comparison will be between those seven samples depending on the properties. The two chemicals, which will be added to the soil in this research, are Silica Fume and Lime.
Soil that will be used for this study is disturbed soil and will be defined exactly in chapter four. The basic physical tests like Grain Ssize Analysis, Atterberg Limits and compression test (which will be conducted during

Soil properties: Some physical and chemical properties of the soil were measured, which are presented in Table 1. The availability of nutrients and even contaminants depends on the degree of soil acidity. The most suitable pH for soil microorganism’ activity is 7, as nutrient solubility depends on soil pH changes (Riser-Roberts, 1998). The soil used in the present study has neutral pH and therefore does not limit the activity of microorganisms or the solubility of nutrients except for phosphorus.…

Soil texture is one of the most important physical properties of soils. Soil texture is related to a number of important soil characteristics such as water holding capacity, soil drainage, and soil fertility. In order to make this lab work to our own convenience we will use soil from our nearby area. This project was conducted to specify what type of soil there is in the area and what it can be used for. Agriculturist may be able to use a similar experiment to know what crops grow better on certain soil or what the best soil to grow their plants on is. The three pure soil textures clay, sand, and silt are the best and whichever is most likely to work best on any plant that needs it.…

This test is performed to determine the magnitude and rate of volumes decrease that laterally confined soil specimen undergoes when subjected to different vertical pressures. From the measured data, the consolidation curve can be plotted. This data is useful in determining the compression index, the recompression index and the preconsolidation pressure of the soil. In addition, the data obtained can also be used to determine the coefficient of consolidation and the coefficient of secondary compression of the soil.…

Soil is a complex system of organic and inorganic matter that directly and indirectly supports plant and animal life. It is comprised of minerals, nutrients, water, microorganisms and decomposed living matter that provide the essential elements required to sustain growth. The soils of different geographical areas differ in chemical makeup, structure, pH value, texture and color. Soil makes the basis of the ecosystem and performs functions essential for the survival of living matter.…
