Something Should Be Done About Trash On Campus
When I sent out a survey, I asked, “What do you notice about the trash on our campus?”, I got some answers that said, “It makes room 21 look bad, I rarely see people pick up trash” and “I see trash over the railing from old school projects and papers blowing around.” I see and agree with these responses.I think that when people see trash they should pick it up. Even one piece of trash can lead to a disaster. Something should be done about the trash around campus because the trash can hurt animals, can cause fires, and can cause unhealthy environment. I think something should be done about the trash on campus.

My first reason for thinking something should be done about the trash on campus is because the trash can hurt animals. I learned on

Southern California sometimes has hot weather, and there is some trash on campus, which can cause fires in certain conditions. According to nfpa.org, estimates of fires reported to U.S. municipal fire departments are based on data from the National Fire Incident Reporting System (NFIRS) and the NFPA annual survey. “Smoking materials” are lighted tobacco products but do not include lighting implements such as matches and lighters. Smoking materials are identified under heat sources, and estimates include a proportional share of fires coded as heat source unknown or as unknown between smoking material and open flame source. I think that this means people who put flammable items in the wrong place might get injured, so I think some people should care more about where they put things. I also learned on snopes.com, that two incidents involving damage to homes due to suspected 9-volt battery fires have been widely reported. In the segment displayed above, a Colorado family's house was said to have caught fire due to 9-volt batteries that jostled inside a paper bag intended to be disposed in the trash. The homeowner, Dave Miller, first shared his tale with Kansas City station KCTV in January 2014 (although the date of the fire was not provided). I think this means that people should care more about where they put things, and the surroundings of where they put the …show more content…
Even one piece of trash can lead to a disaster. For example, a messed up food chain, a fire, or health problems for living things. Something should be done about trash around campus because trash can hurt animals, can cause fires, and can cause unhealthy environment. When I sent out a survey, I asked, “What do you notice about the trash on our campus?”, I got some answers that said, “It makes room 21 look bad, I rarely see people pick up trash” and “I see trash over the railing from old school projects and papers blowing around.” I see and agree with these responses. I think something should be done about trash on campus. I think something should be done, because our school doesn’t deserve the trash on campus.

While researching and surveying, I learned some ways that we can prevent and manage the amount of trash on campus. Some of the ways to manage trash are: the people on trash or lunch duty should do it a few times a week, a trash race to see who or what group can pick up the most, while students are waiting for teachers, they can pick up trash, and I even got one response saying humans or robots should do it, after all, it is the 21st

The centers where garbage is being disposed are concealed, and not exposed to the public. The way we deal with our garbage is unhealthy; [mention groundwater]. Actually, landfills are a better alternative to garbage on our city streets. Litter-trash thrown on the street and in other improper places-is unhealthy for the public, a waste of money, a bad example for other cities, and bad for the earth.…

Since garbage is taken to landfills most people perceive the issues of their trash as out of sight-out of mind type of situation, but the amount of trash currently present on Earth is no big fuss because it would not cover much. In this article the support of this sub claim comes from A. Clark Wiseman of Spokane's Gonzaga University, he discloses “At the current rate, Americans could put all of the trash generated over the next 1,000 years into a landfill 100 yards high and 35 miles square. Or dig a similar-size hole and plant grass on top after it was…

I can recall the times I threw good food, supplies and even clothes that I thought were not useful or simply I did not like anymore, and regret it because it makes me feel like the type of college students Eighner mentions in his writing. “To live in the streets I must anticipate my needs to a certain extent: I must pick up and save warm bedding I find in August because it will not be found in Dumpsters in November” (406). It is incredible how people like us with our hands full of privileges call some things garbage while for those that lack of them have to take advantage to sustain their lives in the present and the future. Now, I am certain that my trash will look different, or otherwise it will make me feel bad since I know someone else might want that piece of bread or need that pair of shoes.…

It is clear that garbage is considered a problem. But pinpointing where the actual, factual and calculable problem lies is often very murky. Millennials seem to be confused or ambiguous to the problem of throw away consumption and we all hear we’re running out of planets every year in the summer. (Hume 2010; King etc. 2006)…

As a group we decided to review the video clip “The Joy of Garbage” where several college campuses are now offering Liberal Arts courses such as “The Simpsons and Philosophy,” “The History of Shopping,” and “The Joy of Garbage.” These courses are being taught at major universities such as Cal State Berkeley, Yale, and Rutgers University. Universities are offering these popular courses with hopes of bringing life back into colleges. While many individuals would consider the classes to be pointless, students at Santa Clara University are learning there is more to garbage than sorting recyclables from regular trash. Students have experienced the meaning of science in garbage. For example, trash that rots breaks down, combustible, and has positive and negative effects on the environment (Stanek, 2012).…

Do you ever see trash just lying around. It is terrible, to get rid of this issue we should get popular people to help, space ships, and recycling. This is probably the reason why the earth is being polluted with trash. Studies show that people litter because they do not feel responsible for public areas and that people usually litter outside of their neighborhoods where the trash becomes someone else’s problem. One example on how litter can affect the environment is that organic litter can cause water pollution and lead to algal blooms, and cigarettes could also start fires if they are not put out and then discarded in the environment. In Al Gore's speech he talks about how in 7 years the North Polar ice cap might “fall off a cliff.” This might happen in 7 years because of the Northern Hemisphere tilting away from the sun. This happened because of all the pollution and global warming we caused and because of our trash. So, people may argue and say one piece of trash on the ground doesn't really matter and that it’s okay to throw little pieces of trash on the floor but it’s not. Every little piece adds up and still causes damage on the environment. So think next time you're about to throw your candy wrapper in a nearby bush. Think about the consequences of that action and how it will affect the…

According to www.sciencedaily.com, in 2008 there was so much garbage they had 378,000 volunteers help cleanup garbage. Also garbage causes pollution and climate change and habitat destruction. Each year garbage kills over a million animals. From some garbage wrapping around animals flippers and amputating them. Additionally garbage can cut marine life and create infections. Also ocean currents have been carrying debris into all major oceanic gyres (spiral or vortex) for decades. They recorded a tin entered in the ocean In 1986 and will decompose until 2036. That is why everyone should recycle.…

Got trash? Trash is a worldwide problem we do not think about; it impacts our lives continuously by compromising people’s health, wildlife, and the environment. Every individual has the responsibility to get involved, take simple steps conducive to minimize the amount of trash created and work with the community to educate younger generations, and with organizations to develop a long-term plan to prevent further damage to health, wildlife and environment.…

If the trash is continuity dumped in a landfill many miles away you just happen to forget about it, however people won’t forget if a landfill just happens to fall next to a home. Well with the growing amount of trash the amount of landfill space is growing smaller and smaller. A portion of the material is burned emitting harmful gasses to the surrounding land. The majority, however, is thrown into a landfill and forgotten. “Liquids that get thrown away will seep through the ground and could harm the soil.” (unknown). When the liquids are thrown away, they can seep into the ground and cause damage to the plants. When this damage is don’t to the plants it also affects the wildlife’s food. Under those circumstances, recycling would be much better for the environment and the…

Anyway I notice that most of the students in our school have responsibilities for their school environment. They put their litters on the proper places. But some are not diligent enough to find the dust bins. The numbers of dust bins in our schools are not enough. More dust bins should be put beside each of steps, outside, of the classrooms, and some more along the corridors. Probably one dust bin should be in every ten meters. So when students want to throw away their litters, they can find the dust bins easily.…
