In the short story “Norma”by Sonia Sanchez, Whenever Sonia would be in class she would smile at Norma, maybe sometimes norma would smile back or she would have liked to be like her. sonia looked up to norma which did not turn out so bad after all. At the beginning of the school year Sonia was this shy and really quiet girl but, deep into the story she has a voice only after norma showed up.
Sonia liked Norma in a friendly way, whenever she was walking in the hallway or sitting in class she would smile at her, sometimes even Norma would smile back. Sonia liked her math class whenever Norma slowly walked herself up to the blackboard. when she got to the front of the blackboard, she asked Sonia what she wanted to know, indeed, what did she want to know? it was all so simple. all Sonia wanted to know is how to factor her problems for her math homework, she was all good. Even in french class Norma was a smartypants, french class was Sonia’s favorite class, her teacher Mrs. LeFevebre was startled. Slowly norma and sonia’s somewhat called friendship was fading away, Norma is changing she was not as cooperative in class, not the person she used to be. sonia is busy with high school, she barely even see’s Norma anymore. Which Sonia was upset in some ways, she may have seen a future with her and Norma as friends. It was a disappointment to her and she was sad about
