Introduction:

Acc National Poverty Center, since the late 1960’s, pov rate for people 65+ has fallen dramatically, pov rate for children has historically been somewhat higher than the overall poverty rate.
2010: 15.1% of all persons lived in pov.
Pov rate 2010 was the highest poverty rate since 1993.
Btw 1993 & 2000: pov rate fell each year, reaching 11.3% in 2000.
These numbers = very shocking but even more shocking about them = keep on increasing every year.

We, as a group, went to interview ABCD’s director: to get much more in depth in the idea of their organization as a whole.
We wanted to understand how this organization really function.
We researched it: very interesting subject for us all.

Through my inter com class, I was asked to choose an organization & work with them; that is how I first learned about them.
Introduced it to my group.
Chose it = we thought that their organization & the way they help people are very effective and touching at the same time...

Let me explain to you what is poverty.
Acc to American dictionary, poverty = state of one who lacks a certain amount of material possessions/money.
We are sure that you all know what poverty is.
All the countries that you are from confront poverty.
We are also sure that when you walk around Boston, you encounter a lot of homeless people & that you feel pity for them.
We really want to make you understand how you can speculate the different ways on how you can help these people & get interested in them, as it would change their lives.

Throughout this speech, Malou will give you a brief overview on the organization’s history, their goal & their values.
Then, Nahira is going to develop the programs that they offer for children & elders going through poverty.
And finally, Ash will explain to you how the organization & the staff are run.
Conclusion:

To conclude, as Malou, Nahira & Ash explained to you:
ABCD = organization that provides basic services & innovative programs to help empower

This experiment was designed to identify the effect of cold-water temperatures on the respiration rate of goldfish. The respiration rates helped to identify the goldfish as being ectotherms or endotherms. Organisms exchange gases with their environment through a process called respiration or breathing. Aerobic respiration, also known as aerobic metabolism, occurs when oxygen is taken into the body and sent to all its cells; the oxygen is then used to break down food for energy (White and Campo 2008). Respiration can be experienced through several structures such as the lungs, tracheae, gills, and integument in order to obtain oxygen. All organisms that experience respiration are either endotherms or ectotherms. Ectotherms are animals that depend on their environment for body temperature. These animals respond to changes in their environment in order to maintain homeostasis, the stable, internal conditions of the organism. Animals that are warm-blooded and can regulate their body temperatures internally regardless of their environment are endotherms. For ectotherms, regulating body temperatures can require more work. Those aquatic animals have adapted several techniques to stay alive. Larry Crawshaw explains that animals, both aquatic and terrestrial, seek to avoid stressful thermal environments or to compensate for the temperature change by mostly lowering the metabolic rate (1979). Lowering the metabolic rate allows certain enzymes to be produced and chemical reactions to happen within the fish that actually warms it up. While lowering metabolic rates are important, respiration regulation is also important. Stephen C. Wood also believes that ectotherms need behavioral mechanisms for temperature control. These mechanisms could include slowing breathing rates to conserve energy and releasing certain chemicals into the body (1991). This…

As a team, we started off by establishing that we wanted to work with a non-profit involved with refugees and immigrants. This is because it is currently one of the biggest topics in the United States and the presidential debate. We became a group because we all were individually passionate about the issue and wanted to make as big of a difference as possible to help immigrants integrate into American lifestyle. We then met up, got to know each other a little bit better and how we work in teams, and finally started to research some non-profits in the local area. After researching for a brief while, we decided to pursue working with Higher Ground International, which caters to refugees coming to America from Western Africa. Our team leader went on to contact some board members from Higher Ground, and they wanted to get to know us better. As a result, we volunteered at a Cultural Gala they hosted at a hotel in Providence. After volunteering at this gala, we learned more about this organization and some potential problems that we may want to fix with our project.…

Poverty is a state of being extremely poor. In the “What is poverty” essay it talks about the struggles of a woman that has three children and is trying to survive with little to no income. Jo Goodwin Parker describes her life living in poverty and her daily struggles to raise a family. In the essay she goes in depth and describes what goes on in her daily life. It is sad to say that Jo describes herself as dirty, smelly, and with no proper underwear on and with the stench of my rotting teeth. She talks about how she has no luxuries while being poor due to the high cost of simple things such as hot water, soap, medicine and clothing. She continues by writing that while there are government programs to help the poor, none exist in her area and if there were she has no means by which…
