I spoke at faith bible fellowship church on April 14 of this year. The purpose was to help the little kids learn about God. My audience consisted of more than 20 children that are apart of the Youth group at the faith bible fellowship church. I spoke about Daniel and the lion’s den. In this story Daniel got thrown into a whole that contained a lion. King Dariaus made a law that no one could pray to God for 30 days. Daniel did not follow the new law and was caught praying to God so he was thrown into a den filled with lions. The king came back to check on Daniel and he was still alive. To summarize the story, Daniel’s faith in God protected him. This story that I told the kids was about 10-15 min. I did not feel as comfortable as I thought I would. I felt very nervous I think because there were a lot of kids there and some parents also. I was sweating a good bit and had a lot of stress on my mind.
The kids’ reaction to the story was as expected. Seeing as the kids were very young, mainly around the age of 5, they were very interested in the story because it had lions in it and were shocked the lions did not eat Daniel. They asked many questions afterward like why didn’t the lion eat him, so there was much I had to explain but I was not as nervous explaining it as I was reading it. All in all I think the story went very well and don’t think my nervousness was very noticeable. I could not really prepare for it seeing as I just read a story but I think I need to work on not psyching myself out before presenting. I communicated well with the kids and had a good time in the end. I would and am probably going to do this again within a few weeks because I might start to help out at the church. The outside speech was a great learning experience that I think is definitely crucial in the overall improvement and curriculum of speech class.

My family aboard the boat began to worry for one another safety. We were now in a life-threatening storm on the midst of a furious river. I observed the innocence of a child in my niece as the depressing look of fear surrounded her shivering, cold, wet body. Yet, she remained hopeful and prayed to God for eternal life in Heaven. We cried out desperate prayers while the raging storm pounded our pontoon boat like a boxing match. My grandfather maintained the courage and strength and proceeded to steer the boat in the horrific scene.…

The was where I did most of my observing and began to realize even more these people are people just like me, the only difference between them and I was that their reactions to situations were different than mine. Stories were told of going to birthday parties, dinner and even work situations. These stories were no different than my everyday life, the only difference was that after the situations I like to come home and talk to my children and husband they like to have a drink to relax. As the meeting came to an end another pledge was being spoke and everyone stood up and held hands in a circle for the pledge. It was at that very moment I was no longer nervous and had changed my thoughts. I held hands, I joined the group, and I wanted to help be a part of their recovery…

When someone hears the phrase “Rhetoric & Writing,” one might think of speech, as well as the different forms of the written word, such as fiction, autobiography, poetry, etc., but persuasion is, from my point of view, the backdrop of Rhetoric and Writing (Harmon, 411). We, as authors, or even interdisciplinarians, must present our ideas to the world that seduces them to vacate their identity for a short period of time.…

Doesn’t everyone just hate snoring? You have to agree with me that when you are awake at night and you are with some one that snores it is the most irritating thing in the world as half the time it is impossible to get back to sleep. Without a doubt if I succeed today snoring is most definitely going into room 101. The one and only major natural thing that really could make you sleep hell has to be stupendous, snotty snoring. When you awake the next day you are like a drowned rat as your body has not recovered at all from last night and therefore will completely ruin the day ahead. Why when we evolved were we given the power to snore? Half the time you want to get the person who is snoring and shake his body to bits just like a rattle. Or even cover his face in cold water to let the person feel what it is like not to be able to sleep. You know that snoring has just got to go in room 101 to save us from dreadful, irritating snoring!…

Greg Critser lives in Pasadena, California, and writes regularly for USA Today and the Los Angeles Times on issues of nutrition, health, and medicine. An authority on the subject of food politics, Critser has been interviewed by PBS and other media, and his writing on obesity earned him a James Beard nomination for best feature writing in 1999. Embarrassed by a passing motorist who shouted "Watch it, fatso," Critser went on a diet and lost forty pounds. In the process he discovered that in America, weight is a class issue—fat and poor often go together. In exposing the heavy truths about American obesity, Critser gives our bloated nation a wake-up call. His books include Fat Land: How Americans Became the Fattest People in the World (2003) and Generation Rx: How Prescription Drugs Are Altering American Lives, Minds, and Bodies (2005).…

I am now currently the treasurer of my FFA chapter officer team, and I have no problem to stand up in front of a room of my fellow peers to confidently give a speech. During my time on the officer team, I was able to put myself out there and reach out my comfort zone. Attending events all over the state of Texas, I gave speeches , talked one on one with others about my past experiences, and made sure that their time at these conventions was memorable. My duty as an FFA officer is to help others, and now I strive to apply that into my future career as an Elementary school teacher.…

Five years ago, I never would of guessed that I would be standing in front of a group of eighth graders about to tell them my life journey with God. I volunteered with my youth group to help with the St. Joseph Confirmation retreat. My youth minister asked me to give a witness on my relationship with God and how it started. I had no clue where to start, but eventually decided it was my own Confirmation retreat that inspired me to strengthen my relationship with God. It was night two of the retreat and right before adoration. Although I was shaking the entire time, I finished my talk, without anything bad happening, and afterwards, I felt accomplished. I overcame my fear of talking in front of a group.…

The situation of my speech came up from the book that I read ‘The Last Lecture’ which is based on a speech delivered by Randy Pausch addressing a group of adults titled “Really Achieving Your Childhood Dreams’ a few months before his death. This gave me the inspiration to write and address a speech as a renowned philosopher who fought cancer to all the students of Howard University. These brilliant students are putting in all their efforts and are working tirelessly into becoming capable of making a good amount of money. Their aspiration is to have a luxurious life and to afford or meet all their demands and desires. However, they do not realize that there is more to life than just mechanical routine and materialistic happiness. The purpose of this speech is to make these young adults realize the purpose of life, the way to life live, living ones dream, true happiness and the power of perseverance. This speech is also inspired by the commencement speech of J.K. Rowling to a group of graduate wherein humor, reference to personal experience and change in expression are the tools used to communicate an impactful message. That speech of hers created a huge impact on the thoughts of the audience. Some of these aspects such as syntax will be seen in this speech of mine. The use of powerful quotes and phrases, positive diction as well as analogies will also be incorporated in the speech of mine as done in Randy Pausch’s speech making it so inspiring and remarkable. According to me, speech is one form of expression wherein the speaker can actually relate to the people, involve the audience, maintain eye contact with them and manipulate their thoughts by the use of appropriate diction, tone and expressions. It is one of the most influential and persuasive form of expression.…
