The things you will need to make your own ice cream are as follows. First, start out with some cups of heavy cream. Two cups is plenty so don’t exceed more than two for each quart of ice cream. Then, you will need one cup of whole milk to mix in. Also, you will need 2/3 of a cup of sugar to sweeten it up. Then, add one teaspoon of vanilla extract to give it a better vanilla flavor. And lastly, a vanilla bean to enhance the taste. That’s all you will need to make the vanilla flavored ice cream. For other flavors you will need to add some other ingredients to change the taste.
Once you have all your ingredients together, there are some steps you need to follow to make it come together nicely. The first step you will need to do is combine the cream, milk, sugar and vanilla into a saucepan and heat until the sugar is completely dissolved. This will start you out with a nice sweet base to work with. Then, take your vanilla bean and scrape the seeds from it and stir it into the cream mixture just before removing from the heat. Then once those are all together, pour into a bowl and cover with plastic wrap. Chill in the refrigerator or in an ice bath until completely cool. Then after forty-five minutes, open the door and check it. As it starts to freeze near the edges, remove it from the freezer and stir it vigorously with a spatula or whisk.
