From conducting research, it is evident that Spike Island Adventure has a number of weaknesses within their internal environment of the organisation. One of Spike Island Adventure’s main weaknesses
is their poor marketing or advertising. The main issue with this is that not many people are aware of the business or product that is offered by Spike Island Adventure. The marketing of the adventure centre is poor and therefore does not reach out to potential markets. The main marketing or advertising method used by Spike Island Adventure is through brochures and leaflets or word-of-mouth. These methods can be useful for local visitors who are aware of the organisation or certain groups such as school groups for school trips or businesses for corporate days out. However, this is insufficient in terms of attracting a broader market to further develop the company. As mentioned in the strengths, the location of Spike Island is beneficial in attracting customers from various areas around Cork, yet the marketing and promotion of the adventure centre is not enough to match this strength and therefore acts as a barrier to the growth of the business in the future.
In addition to this, Spike Island Adventure has a very weak online presence. Unfortunately, there is a significant lack of online marketing of Spike Island Adventure. The company has established their own website, which is creatively designed to market their product that is offered, however there is a lack of information provided in terms of pricing, business hours and bookings. This would make it difficult for customers or potential visitors to make an enquiry or a booking as it is not quite made clear what is on offer from Spike Island Adventure. As well as this, there is no photo gallery or much imagery used so people will not exactly know what to expect before visiting the adventure centre. Currently, the website is most suitable for group packages as that is the main focus seen throughout the Spike Island Adventure website.
