Statement Of Purpose For Becoming A Member Of The National Honor Society
The opportunity to become a member of the National Honor Society (NHS) is an extreme honor. I realize that my academic success is just the initial requirement for becoming a member. In addition to strong academics and a commitment to learning, the NHS also requires service, leadership, and character to recognize individuals that are actively contributing to both school and the community. I am not only proud of my accomplishments in all four of these pillars, but also by the positive contributions I have made to my school and the community at large.

Maintaining a cumulative 4.0 grade point average through the most recently completed semester is the result of a strong work ethic and a dedicated effort to strive for academic excellence.

There are many people who are not as fortunate as I am and the least I can do is lend a helping hand to make their life better. Last summer, I spent a week in Joplin, Missouri with a group from my church making repairs to a house owned by a woman with a special needs child. The owner was extremely grateful for our volunteer efforts and appreciated everything we did. The satisfaction gained from making a positive difference in her life gave me the inspiration to sign up for another week long mission trip planned for Colorado Springs, Colorado this summer. In addition to gaining a broader perspective of life by providing services outside of Wisconsin, I have also assisted local underserved individuals through community outreach on multiple …show more content…

One of my job responsibilities is to take customer’s groceries out to their car and company policy is to not accept any tips offered. I’ll be honest, I have thought about accepting a tip, especially when there is nobody to witness and knowing that other workers have done it. However, in the end, my core value of doing the right thing and being honest guides me to politely

Later that year I began my sophomore term and I knew it was the year we would be informed whether we were suitable candidates for the National Honor Society. My guidance counselor informed me that there was no particular area that I was weak and struggling in. I possessed the four qualities that an individual has to have: Character, Scholarship, Leadership, and Service. I continued to work hard and have patients with all that put forth in front of me. Soon the nomination’s date approached. I was nervous, yet anxious. I sat patiently and waited with high hopes and positive thoughts. The executive board of the time delivered the nomination letters. After about three minutes my name was finally called. The excitement on the inside was visible on the outside through the smile on my face.
