Statement of Purpose for Engineering Managment
“The future belongs to those who believe in the beauty of their dreams” - Eleanor Roosevelt

I feel that it is the blend of conviction, leadership skills and knowledge that will help bridge the gap between dreams and reality. It is my dream to lead a successful technological firm and to be a one of the top entrepreneurs of my country. My quest for the above fostered me to apply to the Engineering Management program.

Engineering Management is a specialized form of management and engineering that is concerned with the application of engineering principles to business practice. The reason engineering managers exist is to ensure that engineers use solid engineering skills and tools to design and deliver high-quality, cost effective products and services. It is this field that would help me widens my breadth of knowledge beyond a specific technical field into management and business.

I was always fascinated with Mathematics and Science since childhood. When I was introduced to Economics in school as an optional subject, I fell in love with it. I topped my school in the Board examinations in Mathematics and Economics. I was also in the school table tennis and swimming team and won many medals for my school. I was introduced into the world of stocks and markets, early in life by my father who is a successful entrepreneur. I learnt a lot of essential lessons from him about the business world. It has been an interesting journey with the stock market these last couple months. This is my first experience ever in contact with stock market and of course studying and understanding it. Honestly, I still feel like an “idiot” in that market but “less idiot” than before. When I picked the stocks to study I tried to pick firms I knew tech, or contractors without even doing a study on them. I had no idea that Apple was going down since September 2012 (well it’s starting to rise again). I didn’t pay attention that my portfolio was heavy on tech companies and I head no clue that it might be smart to invest even in “bad” companies. Well, I didn’t learn something and here are some of my findings.…

Aside from reading related books and articles about economics, investment also appeals to me deeply, since my Dad has been buying and selling stocks for as long as I can remember, and he often tells me about his techniques and what he's recently been up to. Under his influence, I have gradually become interested in investing and even attended some economic-based camps accordingly, for example the NCCU Social Securites Research camp. What's more, I competed in the Student Investor Challenge held by Da-yeh University which entails investing 10,000,000NTD of virtual money on the stock market. It sparked an interest that to this day I have not lost in the captivating world of the stock market. The thrill of being able to study markets and how unpredictable they are is my goal for later life. Along with studies, I am constantly trying to keep up to date with the various trends of different markets in order to formulate my own opinion of how they may change in the near…
