HR departments and units in organizations are typically responsible for a number of activities, including employee recruitment, training and development, performance appraisal, and rewarding (e.g., managing pay and benefit systems). HR is also concerned with industrial relations, that is, the balancing of organizational practices with regulations arising from collective bargaining and governmental laws.
1. Human resource at Aeroflot Russian Airline
Human resources play a key leadership role in the transport industry. They recently took part in a contest that judged the effective social interaction of more than 2,000 companies. Aeroflot won third place, thanks to their flexible human-resources department. Over 15,000 people work at Aeroflot. The company is quite complex, because it has so many different departments with such diverse functions — from servicing planes to marketing. It's a complex organism and then, in addition, they have representative branches abroad.
1 would say that, in recent years, the crucial importance of the role of HR has indeed been increasingly recognized, because every leader of the company knows that, without HR, the company cannot function effectively. First of all, although the Russian labor market is large, it remains a tough task to find the right person with the right experience, skills, and, most importantly, the desire to do the work. But also, all key decisions made at the company — production decisions, for instance, or direction-management decisions — are always made in consultation with the head of HR. All new company policies are handed down with consent. As a result, the department has a very close working relationship with the general director of Aeroflot.
