Subject: Evaluation Title III Equipment Grant
Dear Larry,
For the Spring 2005 academic quarter, I received a Title III Equipment Grant from the Teaching and Learning Center. In accordance with the obligations, as communicated by you in a memorandum from March 31, 2005, I am hereby submitting my report.
Background:
The grant was awarded for the purchase of a license agreement for the InnoBus interactive video course as well as some speakers. The proposal for this grant was made because it was believed that the InnoBus video course was application oriented and would train students to solve a large complex problem. It provided an innovative teaching approach where students were faced with a real-life situation without having to physically enter a company. Learning goals in the course were: learning to analyze a company, learning to acquire relevant information and coping with insufficient and contradictory information, developing integral managerial assessment capabilities, solving integral management problems, making decisions in uncertain circumstances and based upon uncertain information and under time pressure, and finally to bridge the gap between theory and practice. Rather than being focused on delivering theories, the course was aimed at application of theories, i.e. the students had to apply their knowledge and skills to solve the problem rather than memorize different theories.
Evaluation:
The course was provided in the Spring 2005 academic quarter. Initially seven students enrolled in the course but due to family circumstances one student had to drop the course. This left six students divided into two teams. The syllabus for the course is provided in attachment A. During the first day of class, the students were introduced to the case
