Until today, Americans have not reached consensus on gun-control laws. People who disagree with stricter laws have been saying that "more guns help protect citizens" because with guns they can defend themselves. However, people who support more restrictive regulations claim that loose gun-control leads to an insecure society ("Gun Control"). Because both sides have persuasive reasons for or against gun-control laws, we should implement moderate regulations to find a common ground instead of polarizing the…

Paul Waldman’s “Gun control fight just beginning” appeared in the CNN news website in April 19, 2013. In this argument, Waldman aims to inform his audience about the terms of the gun control debate. The argument that he is counteracting is that people are using their ethos to give credibility to their scare tactics. This dominates the argument through pathos (lies) to completely override all example of logic to keep any gun control legislation from passing. Waldman is effective using logos to show and prove that the fight on gun control is truly just beginning. That if proponents stick with it we will be seeing some gun control laws put into affect.…

Should there be more laws to regulate guns? Gun control has always been one of the most discussed topics in the United States. In the campaign, the president candidates argue about it. After each gun shooting incident, people and the media argue about whether more gun control laws should be implemented, but at first people need to know what gun control really is. According to Federal Firearms Regulations Reference Guide written by ATF, gun control is “the set of laws or policies that regulate the manufacture, sale, transfer, possession, modification, or use of firearms by civilians.” Because gun control involves so many aspects, implementing more gun control would affect all these aspects as well, including financial, political, and social aspects. As a result, changing it would be complicated, but people have different opinions on this issue. There are several major perspectives that can be easily found during my searching.…

Recently, public debates have been less focused on the safety and wellbeing of our youth and kids. Instead, the debate has been heavily focused on the meaning of the Second Amendment to the U.S. Constitution and the proper use of guns by the adults. The Second Amendment reads, "A well-regulated militia, being necessary to the security of a free state, the right of the people to keep and bear arms, shall not be…

The Second Amendment to the Constitution says, “A well regulated Militia, being necessary to the security of a free State, the right of the people to keep and bear arms shall not be infringed” (Agresti, 2009, para. 2). Based on a simple reading of this, it would seem that people do have the right to own and use firearms. So why are so many people trying to ban guns? Maybe it is because they do not understand what the Second Amendment actually means. Maybe it is because the media only reports the crimes committed with guns and not the lives saved with them. What would happen to the crime rate in the United States if guns were banned altogether as other countries have done? While some people think guns should be banned, it has been proven that criminals will still find ways to obtain them and the crime rate will rise.…

Attention- getter: What would you do if somebody came into this classroom and pointed a gun at you as if they were going to kill you for no reason? First thing that would come to mind is, “Am I really going to die right now” and “Why is a person on campus with a gun trying to kill people?” Sad part is, an event like this has happened many times in the past. For instance, the Sandy Hook Elementary School mass shooting as well as the Colorado movie theatre shooting that all took place within the past year[example]. These mass shootings have brought up the issue of controlling who is able to purchase guns and if it is safe and necessary to roam around in public armed with a weapon.…

The conflict of stronger/ tougher gun laws are a great debate. In the United States the argument varies per state and city. Cities such as chicago with a higher gun murder rate are prime examples of why we should have stronger gun laws. The gun laws in america have way too many loopholes. These loopholes leads to many mass shooting with guns being sold/bought by uneducated and mentally unstable. The Daily Beast reported over the last fourth of July, there was over 84 people shot and 14 of them succumb to their gun wounds. This wasn't the only bloody holiday in Chiraq due to gun violence, the past Easter(2015) was litter with gun violence with over 45 people shot and wounded. This is why we must implement stricter background checks. We need…

United States’ gun-control laws vary state to state, thus creating loopholes. There is no license, no registering, no waiting period. Because of this, the stats do not lie. According to a Statistics Canada report in 2012, “There (is) 8,813 homicides involving firearms in the United States in 2012, accounting for 69% of all homicides, while in Canada, firearms account for 33% of homicides . . . There (are) 172 victims of firearm-related homicide” (Statistic Canada). Canada’s current gun laws are clearly…

There are easy ways to get a gun even if a court has said that you can not buy a gun. In four years twenty percent of the one thousand, three hundred and seventy-five guns that were confiscated in Chicago, were bought from one store just outside the city limits (Austin). So people that were told that they could not buy a gun, simply went outside the city and bought one to bypass the gun control laws. On the internet, you can just get guns anywhere no matter who you are which is a huge problem (Giffords, Kelly 187). New York investigators found that sixty-two percent of private gun sellers agreed to sell weapons to someone who said that they couldn't pass a background check (Giffords, Kelly 186-187). No private gun seller has to check the person who they are selling a gun to (Giffords, Kelly 127). This means that if can not buy a gun because of background checks, all you will have to do is go online and buy a gun. A poll from 1993 showed that seventy-seven percent of people supported a ban on semiautomatic assault rifles (Giffords, Kelly 127). In the past ten years there have been at least 200 bills that represent a state wanting stricter gun control laws (Cusack). Most Americans would support improvements to gun laws such as: bans on assault firearms, banning people with mental illnesses from purchasing guns, and more detailed background checks (Cusack). A lot of data shows that if we enforce more strict gun control laws that it will reduce violent crimes. So if creating stricter gun control laws is all it takes to reduce crimes, then why don’t we just do that? There could be a lot of reasons, but the biggest is the…
