I would watch individuals on television shows that were very social gain many friends which grew my desire to conform into that type of person. The media can make you conform in either a positive or a negative way and mostly it depends on the circumstances of how you were raised. Social media has had a massive influence on our generation’s youth because you really can’t go anywhere and not see someone taking a picture and have someone else liking it because they desire to be like them. In other words social media can dictate the view on how to act and who to hang out with which is why the youth is conforming more and more. I am glad that there was not much social media as there is today when I was a kid because it would have been a lot more difficult to rebel against the social norms. There are many other instances in which a young teen tries to physically change their image for example, in an article titled “The fallout from a social media bombshell” the author Smith Walters talks about a young woman that made a video announcing that she would quit social media because of the influence it was having on her. Walters’s states: “In her video, O'Neill explained that for days she would restrict her calorie intake and use carefully contrived poses to get the desired "skinny" look”.(Walters, 2015) Teenagers see many of these kinds of images of a celebrity with a great body which makes them feel discouraged about their own physical
