Once the students were able to break down their errors they were able to see if there was a common factor (which is interesting being that this was a math assignment) to which the student was having issues understanding. Then the student was able to receive help in the areas they were lacking skills to encourage success on the retake of the test.
This is a great method to use for middle school students because they are so critical of themselves and everyone else at this time, breaking the test down item-by-item allows them to see that all areas of development can be improved. This method allows students to go from feeling like a failure that will never succeed to feeling encouragement and a desire to have the same success
