Conduct a web search to identify a specific legal issue that may arise in a radiology department. Discuss the likely responsibility of the department manager in this issue.

The workplace bullying institute (WBI) advises bullying is on the rise. Workplace bullying May begin as innocent fun and then turn into offensive and cruel conduct, evolving into a dysfunctional department conflict that if the appropriate actions are not taken; could become a legal issue. Bullying is psychological harassment at best and psychological violence or emotional abuse at the worst. Five skills lead to effective supervisory communication are: Effective Communicators, Empathetic Listeners, Persuasive Leaders, and Sensitivity to Feelings. Effective Communicators- Expressive speakers, slightly extraverted and opinionated; Empathetic Listeners- Practice reflective listening, respond and engage concerns of others; Persuasive Leaders- Influencing others by encouraging not telling; Sensitivity to Feelings- Awareness of self-image and psychological defense of others, constructively enhancing self-esteem by acknowledging talents, abilities and achievements. There are also five negative barriers to communication and gateways to communication serve as pathways through the barriers. The five negative communication barriers and their gateways are: Physical Separation, Status and Gender Differences, Cultural Diversity, and Language. Physical Separation- Technology helps, face to face communication is better; Status differences- Upward Communication is more likely to be distorted, employees must feel secure; Gender Differences- Conversation styles are different, face or side by side, actively seek clarification; Cultural Diversity- Stereotypes are misleading gateways through cultural diversity are increased awareness and sensitivity or to describe the nation in terms of its passions i.e. American football, Spanish bullfight, Irish …show more content…
When years of experience are added to the education, the qualifications are even more impressive. The responsibilities of the Radiology Department Managers are in a word huge and before taking this his course I had no idea of their responsibilities. What I found surprising was the amount of responsibility that is assigned to the Radiology Department Manager and the complete operational, working knowledge of the department the managers possess. All the course information was pertinent for a department manager to possess and something was learned with every page turned. I have an immense respect for the professional Radiographic Technologist to begin with and the Radiology Department Managers are all that and so much more.     The part of being a technician that interests me the most is trying to get the slightest idea of how a simple ray can transmit through the body without harm and come out with a picture. In order to meet the educational requirements, all of the criteria classes need to be met. Typically is takes two years and then two years of clinical after you get in the radiology program. Radiology technicians must also be licensed in most states by passing an exam from The American Registry of Radiologist Technologist (Bureau of Statistics). The upper division classes are internships and clinical practice. These give a potential candidate hands on experience, while learning lab and people skills at the same time. I personally plan to meet all of these requirements by doing my best in classes and taking classes that might not be mandatory to make myself better in the end. I started to prepare myself in high school by taking four years of science and three years of math. All of the BRAVO outcomes mentioned by Austin Peay will also help me in my career. The acronyms for values and outcomes really stand out to me. I need to remember my morals and values when it comes to the patient/doctor code of confidentially.
