The workplace bullying institute (WBI) advises bullying is on the rise. Workplace bullying May begin as innocent fun and then turn into offensive and cruel conduct, evolving into a dysfunctional department conflict that if the appropriate actions are not taken; could become a legal issue. Bullying is psychological harassment at best and psychological violence or emotional abuse at the worst. Five skills lead to effective supervisory communication are: Effective Communicators, Empathetic Listeners, Persuasive Leaders, and Sensitivity to Feelings. Effective Communicators- Expressive speakers, slightly extraverted and opinionated; Empathetic Listeners- Practice reflective listening, respond and engage concerns of others; Persuasive Leaders- Influencing others by encouraging not telling; Sensitivity to Feelings- Awareness of self-image and psychological defense of others, constructively enhancing self-esteem by acknowledging talents, abilities and achievements. When years of experience are added to the education, the qualifications are even more impressive. The responsibilities of the Radiology Department Managers are in a word huge and before taking this his course I had no idea of their responsibilities. What I found surprising was the amount of responsibility that is assigned to the Radiology Department Manager and the complete operational, working knowledge of the department the managers possess. All the course information was pertinent for a department manager to possess and something was learned with every page turned. I have an immense respect for the professional Radiographic Technologist to begin with and the Radiology Department Managers are all that and so much more.
