3. At the beginning of employment staff, go on training like equality and diversity, this training teaches you the sort of attitude that is expected when working within the resident’s home, staff should also have the right attitude towards working with the residents, they shouldn’t be seen to be negative in anyway. If staff do have a problems they should go see their manager and talk about it and make a plan of action to be able to work through the issue.…
Based on the documentary “Frontline: Living Old”, some of the scenes from the documentary that influences the living arrangements I would consider for my parents is when Ms. Paunescu cares for her mother, Maria, at her apartment. I would prefer my parents to live with me as well despite the health circumstances, because I know the needs of my parents, and I will be responsible for administering the proper medication for them. If, however, I am too busy to take care of my parents when I am at work, I believe that Adult Day Care centers are a good way for my parents to socialize with others. I enjoyed seeing the elderly singing in the nursing home, and I believe that socialization is imperative for the mental well-being of the elderly there.…
Over the year’s different theoretical approaches to group living provisions for adults have changed the way in which we offer our care services and living provisions. Person centred planning has had major impacts and affected group living in many ways, Eric Erikson developed a theory that divides an individual’s life into eight stages that extend from birth to death (unlike many developmental theories that only cover childhood). Erikson (1902-94) This means that when reviewing and updating the need of a service user you would not only look at their physical needs you would also review social and cognitive development. Erikson created the eight stages of developments from birth to death using this he considered basic conflicts of a service user of each stage. This table of development can be used to identify a service user’s potential conflicts which are relevant to the particular stage of development that they are at. For example when I support the service users I work with I take a holistic approach, I take into consideration developmental needs along with physical needs. I think the positives of this approach are that you meet service users specific needs whilst taking into account age related conflicts and we are also eliminating the unneeded grouping of service users i.e. Group Living.…
Colonial Care Center is a local Long beach Nursing Home Located on the corner of Cherry and 5th street. This facility is around the corner from my house, so I was able to visit the home multiple times to get a better understanding of how the residents are living. If I had to rate the residents daily life from my three visits, I would give this home a 6 out of 10. Some of the residents seem to enjoy their interactions with the staff, while others looked miserable. The attire of the patients was all over the board. Some were dressed in pajamas and others were dressed in pants and shorts as if they were ready to go on a nice walk. The staff appeared to have a good relationship with the residents that were willing to interact with them. They knew…
Quality of life is positively linked to certain building features about choice and control, community involvement, physical and cognitive support, comfort and personal care, and creating a sense of normality and authenticity. A narrow focus on health and safety in building design may create risk-averse environments but act against people’s quality of life. As a social environment, all aspects of living in a residential facility, from personal care to communication, from breakfast to bedtime, from the garden to the dining room, can support a person’s sense of self. Little things can make the biggest difference. Well-designed physical and social environments focusing on the quality of everyday life can help people continue in relationships that uphold a sense of identity and promote self-esteem. Common problems are poor understanding of people’s feelings and reactions, environmental features restricting independence and institutional beliefs preventing person-centered.…
The changes that I need to do to become in a total wellness program are my eating habits and physical fitness. More homemade food is better and that means also foods that can be made from scratch and not pre-made. There are so many short cuts people can take now with spices, but they contain so much salt. My mother and grandmother were very good at making food from scratch. The taste is extremely different and it is so much healthier to be able to control what goes into one’s food. The second thing is to get a regular exercise schedule and a set time to do exercise. Those are the major changes that need to be made in my life.…
The spiritual therapies have a positive impact positively on the patient and the family addition to the medical treatment. There are many different types of spiritual treatments and activities available for the patients to deal with the illnesses and to better the quality of life. The life review therapy and the reminiscence therapy are used interchangeable (Nall, 2015, para. 5). The life review therapy is where people share the memories of their life, recalling “the past to achieve a sense of peace or empowerment about their lives” (Nall, 2015, para, 2). Nall (2015) explained that the life review therapy “is based on discussing what a memory means to you” as well as helping individuals to “deal with difficult memories or unsolved concerns” (para. 5). Korte, Drossaert,…
The Hospital elder life Program (HELP)55 is an innovative strategy of hospital care for elderly patients that uses tested delirium prevention strategies to improve overall quality of hospital care. This program includes the following: maintaining orientation to surroundings; meeting needs for nutrition, fluids and sleep; promoting mobility within the limitations of physical condition; and providing visual and hearing adaptations for patients with sensory impairments. In a controlled trial that evaluated HELP, delirium developed in 9.9% of the intervention group, compared with 15.0% of the usual-care group (matched odds ratio 0.60, 95% CI 0.39–0.92). The HELP interventions can also effectively reduce the total number of episodes and days of…

There come moments of ups and downs in life when everyone needs someone for comfort. Especially so, in the modern society of the 21st century where everyone seems to be busy with their own life and work. The family members do not have much time to spend with their older members. For instance, in a family where everyone works outside the home and often has no time to be together. Nevertheless, the older family members who are not any longer physically and mentally well are commonly sent to community well-being centres.…
Fitness has always been a part of my life. I am not going to lie, I did struggle with it during my younger years. I was what people call a “fat middle-schooler” because when I was 12 years old, I weighed 150 pounds. But the catch was, I was still very athletic. I played sports year round like soccer, flag football, and mostly basketball, all physical sports, but still could not loose the weight. My mom, just like every other mom who does not want to hurt their children’s feelings, always told me I was not fat, just big boned. This of course did not help one bit. I knew I was fat and there was nothing I could do about it. Eventually my weight became out of hand. I was 15 years old and weighed 165 pounds. Enough was enough.…
