Summary Of Acceptive By Sue Jozui
Advertising is about businesses competing with each other to bring in more people and money without government regulation, like a free market. Sue Jozui in her passage argues that marketing that uses celebrities is misleading. Jozui supports her argument by first using examples of celebrities advertising certain products. She continues by pointing out that the approval of that celebrity will make a person buy the product that is being advertised. Jozui purpose is to illustrate how this marketing is unfair so that the consumer will realize this and want to boycott advertisers and their advertisements. The author establishes an argumentative tone for the readers and consumers of these products. Companies that advertise products should be allowed to advertise their products however they please, whether it be with or without a celebrity. Some may say that this advertising is unethical or misleading. Proactive uses celebrities like Katy Perry and Adam Levine in order to create a want for their product. As consumers, it is a responsibility to research and analyze the product before they purchase it. Apple products are made to look exceptional for the customer and their commercials draw the attention of those who are attracted by the appearance. Apple has successfully used this type of marketing, making their company millions any time that a new product is released. Advertising is used to increase profits for that company or business. When it comes down to it, the only person who makes the decision of buying a product that they find to be bad, is the consumer himself. Nobody forces the buyer to purchase the product whether it be through credit, debit, or cash.
