Have you ever felt frustrated when you have different opinion with other people. For example, when you have completely different ideas with your family, classmates, colleagues or even strangers online? Everyone may be confronted by a large group of people, who have completely different opinions about a certain problem, and whether the minority holds the truth or not, they are always beaten by the majority. In the story of “all summer in a day” written by Ray Bradbury, the conflict between those two groups is nicely showed------ Margot is confronted by a group of people who believe that they hold the truth and then punish Margot who is really the truth teller. “They walked slowly down the hall in the sound of cold rain. They turned through the doorway to the room in the sound of the storm and thunder, lightning on their faces, blue and terrible. They walked over to the closet door slowly and stood by it.” We can see from words including” slowly, blue and terrible” that children feel guilty and they realize that what they do is really bad to Margot. To put into a nutshell, the psychology of the children changes from being excited but jealous and suppressed at first to being guilty at the end of the story. There is no doubt that children are kind of more mature after the whole story, which is a good thing. However, talking about Margot, she is a victim from the beginning of the story to the end of the story.
The experience of Margot reminds me of many true events. For example, the death of Socrates, the publication of heliocentricism and theory of evolution ,etc. In any previous example, there is no certain group of people who seem childish and naïve like the children in the story. It is all those normal people who know nothing about the truth units together and try to eliminate the difference. Darwin was teased by all other people when he said that monkey is ancestor of human being. Today, we know that it is true and there is nothing funny about that. For Darwin, however, he must have suffered from the incomprehension of
