Roll of Thunder Hear My Cry by Mildred D. Taylor is a novel that shows the reader the life of an African American family in Mississippi after the Civil War during the Great Depression. The African American family are The Logans. The Logans are a family of six, four children and two adults, they were lucky enough to own land unlike most African American families. One of the the four children is Little Man, he is the youngest of the four Logan children. Little Man has shown neatness, bravery and curiosity throughout the book.

Little Man showed tidiness at the very beginning of the book. His sister, Cassie explained that Little Man never let anything he owned get dirty by saying, “neat six-year-old Little Man never allowed dirt or tear stains to mar anything he owned.” This provides evidence that even though they live in a cotton growing town Little Man doesn't let himself or his clothes get dirty.
