Summary Of The Book 'Third'
Chapter1 “Third”
1.Ender is called the “Third” because he is the third child in his family. Ender does not care if he is a Third because when his classmates called him a Third he smiled.
2. I know Ender is intelligent because of the textual evidence in the chapter. The textual evidence is, “He always knew the answer, even when she thought he wasn’t paying attention,” (Scott, card4). This text shows that he is smart and always knows the answer.
3.Ender fears teasing from other kids without the monitor because without it Ender does not feel safe at all around them.
4. Ender forestalls Stilton and his gang my beating up Stilton. He beats up Stilton because he is the head of group so if he beat him up the others wouldn’t mess with Ender. He made

Ender’s father makes Ender feel that he’s a waste. His father was saying good things about how they had so much greater children and then the government didn’t take anything. But to Ender, it felt like his father was saying he’s worthless, waste of space, and a disappointment.
Chapter 3 “Graff”
11. The pretense the I.F. officer comes to his home is that the I.F. found out what he did to that kid at school. A textual evidence that says why the officer came to his home is, “They found out what you did to that kid at school, now they’re gonna make you do time out in the Belt,” (Scott, card17).
12. Graff concludes Ender is the one because they wanted to see what would he do if they took his monitor off. They were testing his ability, he passed the test. He passed the test because of not what he did but why he did it. So that’s why they invited him to the Battle School.
13. Enders parents resent him because they both had to renounce their religion. Also both parents are ashamed of coming from noncompliant families. Another reason is that they resent him is because all of the past they are trying to evade. A textual evidence that’s shows they renounced their religion is “They both renounced their religion…” (Scott,

Graff set Ender to be ostracized by saying Ender can be somewhere when the other boys are not going to be anywhere. Graff also says that he was the lone one to have the brains. A quote from the text that shows this is “Only one of you had the brains to realize that in null gravity directions are whatever you conceive them to be,” (Scott, card31).
18. I think the plans the military have for Ender is one day he can become a commander. They think he has the skills to do that and the brain. One quote that shows that is “He’s going to be commander when you’re still in diapers up there,” (Scott, card32).
19. What I think Graff feels about Ender is that he can become a good soldier one day. Graff also says that Ender is the best in the launch. I think he believes if Ender does work hard and he helps Ender that Ender can become a commander. Overall I think Graff has a positive attitude towards Ender.
20.Graff tells him to not talk to him because then the other boys think that Ender is kissing up to Graff. Also he says that if the word gets around that he is a teacher’s boy he will be iced.
Chapter5 “Games”
21.I think the military wants Ender to be isolated because he does better when he’s on his own. That’s because he believes no one will ever help him out. So like his isolation can’t be

The important beings that Ender attempts to understand are the buggers. In numerous events of the story, Ender is in a situation where the thoughts and sights of a bugger come across him. Ender always tries to imagine the perspective of a bugger. When he plays a game where he pretended to be a bugger, he tries to feel how it thinks. “He put on the mask. For example, Ender had a plan that would make Bernard, one of this launchy classmates, look like an idiot and abate his power over all the launchies, “Bernard’s attempt to be ruler of the room was now broken-only a few stayed with him now… Bernard was contained, and all the boys who had some quality were free of him. Best of all, Ender had done it without sending him to the hospital” (Card 52). To put it another way, Ender had moderately fractured Bernard’s power with the rest of the launchy group without physically hurting him. Therefore Ender helped the rest of the boys who could be someone important and improve their futures since he cared about them and how Bernard treated them. Additionally, In the battle room, the older boys were teasing Ender and his friends for trying to master difficult skills, but got mad when Shen, one of Ender’s friend, did it to them. Due to that, the older boys broke into the battle room to try and hurt them, “‘Stay there!’ He shouted at his friends, who obviously were forming up to come and rescue him… Ender grasped the shoulders of the third boy’s shirt and pulled him up sharply, butting him in the face with his helmet” (Card 115). This reveals that Ender's friends wanted to go and help him, but Ender didn't want their help and handled the situation. As a result of Ender's actions, he thought of his friends and how he didn't want them getting…

Like his sister, he is inherently good, but because he is a genius and ultimately more that of an outcast, he is put in situations where his actions of killing are portrayed of that of Peter. Ender is shown going through three main cycles of violent behavior where he first is an outcast and is tormented by them, then faced with a life death situation, he has no choice but to fight full heartedly. The cycles are Enders fight with Stilson, his fight with Bonso, and his ultimate battle with the Buggers. In each cycle, Ender is unaware that he may and ultimately does kill his opposite. The fact that he is not aware of his doings until the end of the book and is ultimately referred to as “The Xenocide” His tittle sp is that of what the reader early on saw as Peter's fate, not Enders, showing Card's switch on the roles and actions of the good and evil roles within the…

In particular, Doyle indicates that Ender embodies a specific personality because he “...only exists in Card’s population-controlled world because the government gambled rightly that the third child Ender’s parents produced would embody a balance of Valentine’s and Peter’s best qualities”(Doyle 305). Knowing that he was a “Third”, Ender constantly felt the need to prove himself to his teacher, peers, and himself. He thought the title “Third” was a curse and it defined him, he later realizes that being a “Third” gives him the opportunity to prove that being a “Third” is not a curse, which not many people have. Similarly, incensed by the fabrications the teachers are involved in, Ender lashes out saying, “I didn’t want to kill them all. I didn’t want to kill anybody! I’m not a killer! You didn’t want me, you bastards, you wanted Peter, but you made me do it, you tricked me” (Card 297-298). Finding out that he annihilated an entire species, Ender is trying to prove to himself that there is a difference between killing and being a killer. Ender realizes that not only did he eradicate the buggers he also took the lives of many of his teammates, knowing that he sent them to their doom was too much for him to handle, so he justifies it by pinning it on the adults that tricked him into extirpating countless lives. Ender is constantly changing due to his malleability and…

The conversation that starts Chapter 13 is not centered around Ender but rather his siblings Peter and Valentine. Two American I.F. officers unknown to the reader are discussing the Wiggin children due to the reasoning that the I.F. has finally caught on to their true identity, Demosthenes, and Locke. Instead of confronting the children the I.F. officers follow Graff’s advice, which is to do nothing and let them continue since they have caused no real harm or damage to the structure of the I.F. and may actually be correct about their political ideals. Meanwhile, in the lives of Valentine and Peter, they are enjoying the brother sister duo they have created with Peter being as dangerous as ever and Valentine taking pleasure in it. To a large…
