Deception In Ender's Game
Imagine the fate of humanity resting on the shoulders of an eleven year old. Orson Scott Card reflects on his religious background as a Mormon, influencing his science fiction novel, Ender’s Game. The idea of the Battle Room formed in the mind of sixteen year old Card. Although not publishes until late, Card emphasizes the intelligence of children throughout the book. In the novel, the deception and manipulation harden Ender’s personality and shape him into the symbolic representation of evil ingrained in the character of Peter.
Andrew “Ender” Wiggin is constantly being influenced by the deception displayed in his teachers. Specifically, Day comments all the teachers alter Ender to become “…convinced that adults should be regarded primarily

In particular, Doyle indicates that Ender embodies a specific personality because he “...only exists in Card’s population-controlled world because the government gambled rightly that the third child Ender’s parents produced would embody a balance of Valentine’s and Peter’s best qualities”(Doyle 305). Knowing that he was a “Third”, Ender constantly felt the need to prove himself to his teacher, peers, and himself. He thought the title “Third” was a curse and it defined him, he later realizes that being a “Third” gives him the opportunity to prove that being a “Third” is not a curse, which not many people have. Similarly, incensed by the fabrications the teachers are involved in, Ender lashes out saying, “I didn’t want to kill them all. I didn’t want to kill anybody! I’m not a killer! You didn’t want me, you bastards, you wanted Peter, but you made me do it, you tricked me” (Card 297-298). Finding out that he annihilated an entire species, Ender is trying to prove to himself that there is a difference between killing and being a killer. Ender realizes that not only did he eradicate the buggers he also took the lives of many of his teammates, knowing that he sent them to their doom was too much for him to handle, so he justifies it by pinning it on the adults that tricked him into extirpating countless lives. Ender is constantly changing due to his malleability and

In the country that Ender lives in the government has restricted the amount of children each family can have. The government's limit is two children per family, but he is the third child of the family. In school right after he got his monitor taken away Ender thinks to himself, “It was not his fault he was a Third. It was the government's idea, they were the ones who authorized it - how else could a Third like Ender have got into school” (7)? This quote proves that even Ender realizes that he is abnormal because he is a Third child. He understands that the only reason he is alive is because the government allowed his parents to have another child. Although he does not know this, the reason why the government approved of him being born is because his older brother and sister showed promising qualities, but did not have the right balance of cruelness and empathy. Ender showed the same promising qualities as his siblings, but unlike them he also showed having the right balance between showing cruelness and empathy. Because of Ender’s characteristics, it made him the perfect candidate for them to shape into a commander that would win the war. Not only does Ender fit the Hero’s Cycle due to his abnormal birth, but he also fits the Hero Cycle because of the challenges that he faces that build his moral strength and…

Arthur Miller makes the claim “Lies and deceit can cause the worst trouble in a community”. This can be seen when Sarah Good, an old lady who is believed to be a witch, is asked to recite the 10 commandments to prove she isn't a witch. In the play titled The Crucible ,by Arthur Miller, Mary Warren, a young housemaid, is talking to Proctor and Elizabeth, a christian couple, and she states that, “Aye, but then Judge Hathorne say, ‘Recite for us your commandments!’ - leaning avidly toward them - and of all the ten she could not say a single one. Two of the main characters that played an important role in the development of the play "Mandragola" were Messer Nicia and Callimaco. Meanwhile, Lucrezia's beauty caught the eye of Callimaco, a young man who returned to Italy, his native country, after living in Paris for about 20 years in hopes of pursuing the beautiful Lucrezia.
