Someone kind does not always have to express big acts of kindness. They could be a quiet leader and just be there for someone or do a small act of kindness that people notice. “We carry with us, as human beings, not just the capacity to be kind, but the very choice of kindness.” (pg. 306) We are the ones with the choice of how we can affect someone else’s life. Another part of the book said, “The universe takes care of all its birds.” (pg. 204) This shows how people take care of other people and how they can cheer you up. Jack for instance, befriends August even though he does a few stupid things to hurt August. He also becomes one of August’s best friends and laugh, plays and see’s him as a normal person. …show more content…
“AMOS CONTI'S PRECEPT; Don't try too hard to be cool.
It always shows, and that's uncool.” (pg.313) Amos is friends with Julian who is a mean person however he shows that trying to be too cool doesn’t come off as nice. Amos is helpful in the end by helping up August and comforting him in a time of hardship. “Here’s what I think: the only reason I’m not ordinary is that no one else sees me that way.” (pg.3) Some people at the end of the book realize that August is an extraordinary human being just like everyone else and someone who has survived the impossible. He knows he’s not ordinary but, is more prone to it because people see him as a
freak.
“MR. BROWNE'S SEPTEMBER PRECEPT: WHEN GIVEN THE CHOICE BETWEEN BEING RIGHT OR BEING KIND, CHOOSE KIND.” (pg. 48)
R.J. Palacio shows that one can make any decision such as being right or being kind. Even though people look different they're not as different as you think on the inside. “I think there should be a rule that everyone in the world should get a standing ovation at least once in their lives.” (pg. 313) Everyone deserves a second chance and should be given one. At first, the book describes August and all of the other kind or mean people. However, the ending brings them all together in one big celebration for August.
In conclusion, R.J. Palacio showed the moral of the story is to be kind over anything else. She showed that even one can change from having a mean soul to having a heartfelt and kind attitude after reading the book. The reader would feel compassionate for those around them that have struggled in parts of their life. The end of the book is finally where August gets to express how he feels and how people being kind can change everything. “Shall we make a new rule of life... always to try to be a little kinder than is necessary?” (pg. 299)
