Our text book is a vision of hope for the people going through the news of an apocalypse. In the first section of our textbook, “The World Before” examples of pop culture is used frequently. One piece that stands out is the profile: “A Plot Twist for Demi”. This is a piece that demonstrates how through all the hardships come good things. The reason is, in the profile, Demi has developed an internal struggle with herself and struggles to accept that she has a problem. However, in the end she realizes she needs help and that help has been there all this time. To relate this to our textbook, there is an apocalypse and people are struggling to figure out why it is happening, but don’t know what they can do about it. This story of a girl can help open the minds of these people and help them realize that to survive this apocalypse everyone has to work together. The imagery in this piece of Demi binge eating could represent that in the real world, no matter how hard you try to tell yourself that you can deal with a problem on your own you still have a problem. You need to find other people to help you. The hallucinations that Demi has of her body can be similar to during a terrible event and you end up losing yourself because you can’t handle yourself. You need the help of others to bring you back into reality. The people who read this piece can learn the meaning of connecting together as a community rather then a one man army. It brings in the vision of hope, and tears down the images of destruction and hopelessness because you know you aren’t alone.…
