Summer Reading Project: Mello Yello
For my summer reading project I chose Melody. For this project we had to pick three symbols for our poster. The three symbols I included were a Mello Yello can, the cerebral palsy symbol, and a brain. I chose a Mello Yello can because that was Melody’s favorite drink. She loved it so much that she was nicknamed “Mello Yello”. In the book it stated “Mello Yello was my favorite. Mrs. V even started calling me that.” (Draper, pg. 44). This was important because she loved being called this. I placed this symbol next to her hand instead of in her hand because she was never able to hold things by herself. She always somebody to feed her and give her drinks. The next symbol I chose to draw was the cerebral palsy sign. I did this because she has been diagnosed with this condition ever since she was born. It is and always will be a huge factor in her life. She will never be the same as everyone else, which makes her feel left out. This represents how she has and always will live. I put it on her shirt because she will have to deal with it everyday much like she has to wear a shirt and get dressed everyday. The final symbol I chose to put on my summer reading poster was a …show more content…
I chose this one because is is about how Melody saw or thought about words. Words were a big part of her life eventually. I put this quote in a thought bubble because it was a thought in her mind in the beginning of the story. The second quote I put in her head because it was about dreaming. It is important because the dream was about how she was able to do things that she would never normally be able to do. The last quote on her shirt is about how she thinks missing her flight was her fault. She had no control over it and that is why it is important and significant in this story. It was not her fault and she shouldn’t feel bad.I put it on her jeans because they are luee and when you’re sad you feel blue and down. The jeans symbolize how she is

This represents how Mildred was so connected to her technology that it consumed her. You will also notice she is shackled to a box that represents her parlor and her screens. I decided to do this because she spent so much time with her “Family” she became a slave…

Symbolism is the voice of the unspoken feeling. There is an abundant amount of powerful symbols exhibited within the novel A Lesson before Dying by Ernest Gaines. The author successfully adds a touch of importance to his symbols; the three most important symbols delineated in this novel are Jefferson’s notebook, the recurring food, and lastly the kitchen door of Mr. Henri’s house. A Lesson before Dying emphasizes the implications behind symbols and how they are borne throughout the story.…

In 1957, nine African-American students challenged institutionalized segregation in Little Rock, Arkansas, simply by enrolling in Central High School, a formerly all-white school. Melba Patillo Beals was one of the nine determined students who attempted to desegregate the public school system in Little Rock. She later wrote about her experiences in Warriors Don’t Cry, a forthright memoir with the ability to transport its readers into the halls of Central High School and onto the streets of Little Rock during a metamorphic period in American History. Although briefed by leaders of the National Association of the Advancement of Colored People (NAACP) on what to expect upon enrollment, the beast the young students awoke was much larger than anticipated. Once Beals and her eight fellow warriors crossed into white-washed territory, they were greeted with spit, profanity, assault, acid, and a constant fear of their safety. The once “tall …majestic… European castle,” Melba fantasized about, transformed into a building she…

In this story, there are multiple different symbols - all of which hold the ability to lead the readers into deep thoughts and realizations. There are small moments that turn into symbols when looked at correctly, there are character point of views that symbolize different things, and, finally, there is the symbolism of Zach and Cammie’s relationship (previously mentioned in “The Shifty Sort”). In chapter 12, of How to Read Literature Like A Professor, Thomas Foster describes how a writer might symbolize almost everything in a novel: starting with a simple object to the most complex characters. According to Foster, not everyone will find a symbol; those that eventually do however will not interpret the meaning of the symbol the same way as others do. Some writers use direct symbols, but some let us use our imagination to find the true hidden meaning. In addition, Foster explains how if we want to figure out the deeper meaning of a symbol, we should “use a variety of tools on it: questions, experience, preexisting knowledge” (Foster 107). Since “a symbol can’t be reduced to standing for only one thing,” Foster encourages readers to “… engage that other creative intelligence” and to “listen…

We chose to do Eponine for our final project. She was the Thenarider's oldest daughter. She is hopelessly in love with Marius and he doesn't take any notice of her. While posing as the Jondrette family, she is the one to go and ask Marius for some money. Later in the book, she shows Marius where Cosette lives and then leads him into the barricades for war, with the thought that if she couldn't have him, no one could. In the end, she gives her life to save Marius as she declares her love for him. In our image, we have 5 significant symbols or pictures: a girl's profile, a broken heart, a letter, a moon, and the rising of a sun. The girls profile is a pretty obvious start. We just wanted a background to have a visual of what she could've looked like. The broken heart is for her love for Marius, as well as our quote. She watches him fawn over Cosette, all the while she just wants him to love her. She never admits how she feels until she is on her death bed, and we found that a very touching part of the story. She dies knowing he will never love her. The letter is for the letter that Eponine was supposed to give to Marius from Cosette. She never gave it to him and finally, while she laying dying, she gave it to him. The moon is a symbol of death. The sun had set on her life and as the moon rose, her life fell to the shadows. The moon is only visible during the dark night, while death is only in the darkest of our days. Finally, the rising sun. This is a symbol for her redemption and for sacrificing her life for Marius. She gave into the moon and the night, that Marius might rise another morning with the sun, to live in happiness. We also see this as a form of redemption. She was not born into the best family and she made some wrong choices, but as the moon sets and the sun rises, a new day beings. The pervious day gone forever and only memories left in its wake.…

The poem “To This Day” by Shane Koyczan, It summarizes that people are cruel sometimes and they can't see everything and they can't live the life that some kids live and how bullying is pushed out of the way and it affects kids for their whole life. A girl is made fun of because people say “kids used to say she looks like a wrong answer that someone tried to erase but couldn’t quite get the job done.” There making fun of her and they don't realize it can hurt her feelings because she has a birthmark on her face and she can't control that and she is born with that mark on her face so she does not deserve to be treated like that. In the picture of her i think the symbol is cruelty and i think the author chose that because he is trying to point…

The third, and final, example of symbolism is in stanza five it’s, “How we’d lose ourselves for someone who is forever lost,”. I think this means that we’d change who we are for someone we miss but, we know it won’t help, the message and theme were impacted by this because, it shows that someone they care about left them. It makes me realize that there are people we will miss in life and, it’s going to be hard but, you can get through…

    c. “My sun is gone so far in’s zodiac” visual image, she uses it to compare her husband to a nice summer weather that went far away which she is impatiently waiting to come back. This helps setting the importance of her husband in the poem. The second lively image is: “My joy, my magazine of earthly store” this image in my opinion is imaginary meaning she is thinking of it in her head. That’s a great way to set the tone by stating her feelings prior to her husband’s departure. The third image “My chilled limbs now numbed lie forlorn;” is visual. Through this image she is expressing how lonely her husband’s absence has left her.…

They see it as something useful that other family members made out of love. They see it for more than it is “Simply put, the quilt is a metaphor for the ways in which discarded scraps and fragments made be made into unified, even beautiful, whole.” (Piedmont-Marton, Elisabeth). The other daughter Dee sees it as proof of her heritage. Something she can put on display and nothing more.…
