Supplemental Instruction Leader Essay
Supplemental Instruction Leader is a great job opportunity for us undergraduate students to acquire leadership experience. It is an opportunity for us to gain experience leading and strengthen our communication, public speaking, and teaching skills. Personally speaking, that is one of the reasons why I would like to work as a supplemental instruction leader. The other reasons why I would like to become a SI leader is to gain practical experience for my future career and assist OSS. Last year, supplemental instruction was provided for me in my calculus I class. It was during that time where I became aware of how supplemental instruction works. Our supplemental instruction leader, Kyle Wooley, was phenomenal in helping us. He gave us great …show more content…
First, I would like to acquire experience working with students because this will be highly needed prior to my career. As a supplemental instruction leader it is my job to attend class with students, generate weekly sessions which will target study skills, help students develop study strategies, and provide a fun, enthusiastic environment for students to engage in learning. Personally speaking, it is very vital for instructors to come up with fun ways for students to engage in learning. For example, as a supplemental instruction leader my sessions will consist of fun learning experiences. This will include a jeopardy prior to the exam. This way the students can learn the material quickly and at the end of the day they will have enjoyed themselves. Second, I would like to strengthen my public speaking skills. Other goals include assisting the OSS office and gain leadership experience. The skills that I will bring to the program are adaptability, leadership, positivity, multi-tasker, open-mindedness, team player, enthusiasm, interpersonal, and communication. The SI leader has to be responsible, determined, confident, and approachable. It is very important that students can go to their SI leader without any hesitations.
