Surface Warfare Officer Personal Statement

Taking on the role of a Surface Warfare Officer would give me the opportunity to be hands on in the work environment. I love and enjoy a role where critical and strategically thinking is of great importance. Through these roles, I am able to push myself to the limit to find solution or reframe technical issues that have surfaced, and even challenging current beliefs and mindsets including my own to get a solution or how to go about solving a specific problem while working towards a mission. Getting commissioned in a job of this magnitude will no doubt provide lifelong leadership skills and learning experiences. While in college and throughout my working years I have been a role model and a mentor to my peers in many different ways. Some of my qualities as a leader includes commitment, strong work ethics and patience, these qualities act as a guide to fulfill the needs and duties of any given assignment whether at work or around my peers. These same leadership skills and experiences also allow me to motivate and inspire others around me, to push them beyond their boundaries and accomplish an objective or mission as a team or individually.

As a leader, I am always aware of whether my subordinates are satisfied in their work areas and whenever I feel
that they’re not, I feel the need to assist them and provide any insight on how satisfaction can be achieved on an assigned task. When in the role of a leader, it’s important to assure everyone that their efforts are appreciated; recognition and appreciation will contribute to contentment and high moral standards of the entire team.

I love the idea of being challenged in situations which would be deemed too hard for some people, I enjoy taking on new roles.
Although, I’ve been guilty of taking my work too seriously, this not all only put stress on my mind and body, it also takes away the enjoyment from the job and the journey it provides. At the end of the day, happiness is one of the greatest motivators that I want to possess in order to achieve future goals and missions. My motivation to achieve is ultimately based on living a life that will encourage joyfulness and satisfaction. Getting the opportunity to work in a field that I adore will no doubt contributes to high self-esteem, happiness, positive outlook on life and hope for a better
future.
Not only will it be an honor to be commissioned in the Surface Warfare Officer community, it would also fulfill my dreams of proudly serving my country in a prestigious and respected field within the Navy. A place where my character and moral outlook on life will be molded and groomed. These and other reasons have led to my decision to purse a commission as a Surface Warfare Officer.
