EDMONTON - Russell Duff Brown. Jr., age 70, passed away on Tuesday, September 12th at his home. He was the son of the late Russell Duff Brown, Sr. and Phyllis Quaife Brown. Russell was a Maintenance Foreman with the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers.…
Imagine being involved in a school activity that literally consumes almost every moment of one's life. Anna Skelly is involved in Hempfield Area High School Marching Spartan Marching Band. i have known Anna since middle school. We just became close because we both attend Cosmetology in CWCTC tech school. While interviewing Anna, I learned many interesting things about her family life, school activities, and hobbies.…
Duras redetermines the idea of the character in Savannah Bay. The three characters of Madeleine, Jeune Femme and Savannah cannot exist in their own rights. They all depend on each other’s action, memories, and admissions. Madeleine’s fragmented memories reflect her fragmented character. She is never a complete character, and the audience will never be granted a full picture of who she is. Jeune Femme is reliant on Madeleine for the representation of her mother, Savannah. Thus, it becomes unimportant to access the character of Jeune Femme, who, unlike Madeleine and Savannah, is not even accorded a name; she is merely a vessel present to retrieve information relating to the character of Savannah. Yet, Savannah is always absent. She is a character…
mindsets. Some characters deemed it best to keep the past in the past. Why complicate your life as well as others, with disheveled, bitter, and in some cases disgraceful memories of the past. Especially when it is far easier to bury them, even forget them altogether. In contrast, some characters in the story believed that the past should be brought into the light, cracked wide open, not matter the consequences.…
The book, A Child Called “It” by Dave Pelzer, is a true story of a man’s childhood from the ages of 4 to 12 and how things went from good to bad in a matter of a few years due to his mother’s abusive tendencies toward him. It is a moving story of how this child mustered up the strength to keep living, despite his harsh circumstances. This book, for the most part, is in chronological order and each chapter is a significant event that happened throughout the few years he was under his mother’s care, before he was taken away by Child Protective Services.…
Robert faces innocence, which was a huge factor that affected him where his sister, Rowena Ross was born with a deadly disease called hydrocephalus, in which fluids accumulates in the brain, enlarging the head and potentially causing brain damage especially to younger children. This results in Rowena passing way when she falls out of her wheelchair, where Robert was told to watch her, but was instead, “making love to his pillow” (Findley 15). This results in Robert wanting to enlist to war to escape from the pain and guilt because he was the sole reason of the death of his sister and he shouldn’t have left her sight. It is clear that Robert is hiding his feelings and wants to keep his private emotions to himself away from others around him.…
The first character that I will discuss is Mabel, which is Norma Jean's mother in the story "Shiloh." Mabel is very controlling and pushy when it comes to her daughters life. She is also very straight forward with her daughter about what she has done wrong in her life and what she should be doing with it now. Mabel has very strong roots from the south since that is where she grew up. She takes pride in being from the south and part of the confederacy even though the Civil War was fought almost one hundred years before this story was written. With Mabel being proud of being apart of the United Daughters of the Confederacy, she felt like her life needed to be almost perfect so she didn't approve of how her daughter was living her life.…
As I read this story more and more, I became attached to Rose and wanted to know more and more with each page turn. At the same time, however, I was saddened when reading this book because it made me think about the other children that are often “lost” in the welfare system and have their lives forever changed because they are passed from home to home or cannot get resolution to their past. In Rose’s case, I was saddened and also angered by how some in her life as she was older (both professionals that had Rose as a client, and certain members of Rose’s family) treated her as less than a…
To say that there is no good in evil is to deny the very reality of evil’s existence. Black and white thinking such as the topic previously stated is what truly can hurt us the most. When you look at moral issues you must acknowledge that it is a grey spectrum, with many different viewpoints. If I told any person who has actually read East of Eden that I admired Cathy? They would think me insane and possibly give me some nasty looks, as well as cross the street when I walk past. But since you have to read this essay, I think it’s fair that I make my point. Cathy is a real go-getter, she does what she has to to make ends meet. She isn’t easily swayed, and has a strong moral foundation, whether or not it’s a good one is a moot point. Lastly, she’s not easily discouraged. Even in the face of direct adversity, she brushes herself off and keeps on trucking.…
Characterization is refer to as the personality assigned to the individuals in the story. Tessie Hutchinson stands out because she arrives late to the lottery. Jackson set her apart from the other characters because the lottery is taken seriously, but Mrs. Hutchinson forgot what day it was as she was doing chores. At first, she was eager to join the lottery and even said “Get up there, Bill.” However she became desperate to get out of the situation when Bill draws the marked strip of paper and starts protesting, saying that it wasn’t fair. Jackson demonstrated how Mrs. Hutchinson was a hypocrite because the tradition never bothered her until she was chosen one.…
Lara Ferrari, the author of “Suitcases and Snow Globes” uses the narrator’s sad past to shape the plot of the story, like when it’s a “memory that finally guilts [the narrator] into action” (Ferrari 2). Guilt can be found in every individual, especially when someone thinks back into the past about something they regret. Readers learn to become better people by making actions that don’t make them feel bad inside, afterward. The narrator in the short story feels guilty about not sponsoring a child in need of her help but finally makes the decision to accomplish her goals, which influences readers to do anything they dream of doing. In “The Treasure of Lemon Brown”, by Walter Dean Myers, the protagonist, Greg, meets Lemon Brown, who has lost his son in the military “‘ I’ll be watching from the window so you’ll be all right’”(. Lemon Brown’s past allows him to treat Greg like a son, helping Greg to accept that his father just wants the best for him. Therefore, readers learn that a father’s greatest treasure is his child. They also learn that trying to understand something from another person’s viewpoint will, in the long run, benefit them more than having a narrow mind. As a final point, life lessons can be learned through human nature that is revealed in fictional…
I Silvia Mora, the owner of Liberty Pallets Incorporation have known Rosa Maria Garcia for several years. Through my cousin Alejandro, whom is married to her, I came to know her to a personal level. With our ten-year genuine friendship, I have perceived all aspects of her character.…
I saw Spill on Saturday, January 30, the second night. I enjoyed the production and especially admired the work of Kacey Musson. Musson had the role of Shelley Anderson, wife of one of the rig workers, Jason Anderson. Kacey Musson put much detail in her strong performance while playing the role of Mrs. Anderson, as she used fantastic vocal work as along with her terrific movements.…
Laurie Noe is one of the kindest, most genuine, and selfless people I have the honor of knowing. Laurie is a family friend and was my babysitter when I was young. We are not very similar; she is about thirty years older than me, she resides in a lower socioeconomic status, and she lives her life in nonconformist fashion. Nonetheless, I strive to one day become like her; to inspire others around me as she has me. Laurie is the person who always has her door open, an extra plate of dinner, an extra bed, and an ear to listen. Her house is always chaotic – with her four biological children, her six adopted children, and with every lost animal in the city running around. Laurie has always taken care of others. When Laurie’s friend passed away, she…
The main character, Jenny has the motivation to seek for a more desirable and meaningful life where she feels as if she is making an impact on her surroundings. This is seen in Neil as well but in a more literal sense due to how the snow storm has made any outside contact impossible. For instance, when the TV is still not working he states, “The electricity’s on. You’d think with a satellite dish we’d pick up something (2018). He also explains to Jenny how he does not enjoy being remote from the rest of the world and tells her, “Thanks for that. I’m still not used to it. Being so remote. Nature’s always scared the living crap out of me. Now I’m living in it. Or visiting it on weekends, anyway. You know I saw a bat flapping around out there? I didn’t…
