Swot Analysis For Healthcare
Healthcare industry is in a lot of pressure to improve patient safety, increase efficiency, reduce medical errors, and provide access to patients to information while keeping costs low and adhering to policies. Information Technology (IT) can be seen as the only way to promote all of this. In healthcare, IT has improved operational efficiency and increased productivity by reducing paperwork, automating routine processes, and eliminating waste through duplication of tests.

Computerized physician order entry (CPOE) systems contribute towards improvement in patient safety through better quality in care and reduction in medical errors. They not only eliminate the problems of lost and comprised hard copies of patient records, but also enable more secure electronic transfer of patient information to other healthcare providers and insurers. In pharmaceuticals, the electronic transmission of prescription information from the prescribing physician to a pharmacist can reduce medical errors.

The organization that I have chosen to do my SWOT analysis on is the New Orleans Saints football team. They are among the most successful teams of this decade but not ranked very high as far as most lucrative organizations in the National Football League. They are currently ranked 23rd among the 30 active teams in the national football league. The organization was formed and became a professional football team in 1967. The team got its nickname due to its founding being on All Saints Day on November 1, 1967. The team initially one of the weaker franchises in the league. It didn’t win many games and struggled to sell out games. They have won one Super Bowl title, 5 Division Championships, and made only 9 playoff appearances in its 46 year existence. The ultimate goal of this organization is to win football games and generate revenue by selling tickets and merchandise.…

There are many benefits of CPOE such as reducing medical errors related to medication orders and also help improve healthcare outcomes for the patients. Another benefit of the CPOE system is that it's alert physician patient's drug allergies and current medications which help them provide the effective help they need for that patient. A study found that “processing a prescription medication order through CPOE lowered the chance of an error occurring on that order by 48%. Technology is being used in doctors’ offices, clinics, dental offices, and hospitals. This new technology keeps the doctors’ connected to hospitals, specialists to primary care physicians, and pharmacies to doctors. Although it is not being used everywhere, and the areas where technology is being used provides some serious advancements to health care providers and patients alike. According to the Health Resources and Services Administration web site on Health Information Technology, one of the main advantages of health information technology (HIT) is that it instantly makes ones health information available to anyone who needs it (U.S. Department of Health and Human Services, 2013). With the help of health information technology there has been a decrease in duplicate test ordered by physicians. Another perspective of HIT is that all of the patient’s information can be entered into a system and all of their doctors can have access to the information. When health care information is more coordinated and there are less repeats of testing and treatments, health expenses are less. Doctors’ offices, clinics, and hospitals have realized a compelling cost savings through the use of health information technology, due to how information is managed. The health care business has seen many changes and has developed over the years and this trend will continue because of advances in pharmaceutical products and technology (Christ,…
