SWOT Analysis for Valley of the Sun United Way
Strengths- Valley of the Sun United Way (VSUW) has a long time reputation of being reputable and seeing to the needs of the community in 25 cities within the State of Arizona, Maricopa County for the last 85 years. VSUW are active members of the Better Business Bureau (BBB), and recent finalist of the 2010 BBB Ethics Award (VSUW, 2010). Weaknesses-Were not easy to find with VSUW, although all organizations have some form of weakness. VSUW is a large nonprofit organization and covers several cities and serves the community through volunteer assistance. Opportunities-The United Way of America has a goal to reach communities
at large by 2018 and share the victory (VSUW, 2010). The continued contributions received from companies through telethons and employees who donate through payroll deduction. Threats-Which may affect VSUW, would be in the area of uncollectible pledges (companies out of business) and investments in equity securities (based on fair market value).
Strengths
* In business for 85 years * Builds relationships and partnerships within the community * Committed to making an impact on the community * Teaching the importance and awareness of financial stability * All monies donated stays in Maricopa County * Governed by committees to insure agency performance and monitor finances
Weaknesses
* A large entity , primarily volunteer assistance * Volunteer review, makes funding decisions * Not being able to serve all who contact VSUW
Opportunities
* To envision by 2018 communities being reached at large, sharing the success * Setting long-term and short term goals for future programs * Always looking to invest in the community by monitoring needs and critical social issues
Threats
* Potential loss of state funding and grant renewals * Uncollectible pledges and donations * Not being able to meet the needs of the community (VSUW, 2010)
To justify the analysis given for the SWOT was based on the financial stability of VSUW and the leadership the organization has exuded for the last 80 years. VSUW takes a huge amount of pride and honesty in making sure all needs are met according to there financial position, always wanting to serve the community. VSUW counts on the pledges, donations e.g. and open for financial statements to be disclosed because they hold high ethical standards and has a quality financial management team to hold them accountable.
