Symbolism In The Shack
Jesus is presented as an Asian handiwork which is extraordinary and falls apart with the typical image presented in the Bible. At the same time, this personage displays the specific Christ-like qualities. He talks to the main hero about the creation of Trinity and helps him to calm his soul and reduce sufferings while showing the true hospitality and spending an evening with Mack laughing and enjoying their company. The Holy Spirit is represented as an Asian woman whose name, Sarayu, means “wind” which is considered to be “a biblical image of the Spirit’s activity” and displays the freshness which she brings to Mack’s soul (Coulter 3). It is possible to conclude that the whole story is based on allusions and specific representations of Christian traditions and concepts. The critics, who claim that the author creates wrong representations of religious beliefs and sacral ideas, do not analyze the novel deeply. In this way, the unfair estimation of the novel appears. Referring to the provided research, it is possible to notice that “The Shack”, per contra, highlights the necessity of demonstrating human love to the God as the faith can support a person even in the most complicated and evilest situations. It is considered to be the main message which Young tries to deliver to his readers. The characteristics of the Trinity, brief analysis of the most important symbols and the significance of setting are described in the article. As a result, the primary goal of the research is reached.
