Symbolism In The Walking Dead

In the world of today people have conjured up various ideas for various types of modern day apocalypses that human beings have become so fixated on. From natural, more or so unnatural, disasters ravaging the planet to aliens invading and attempting to conquer the Earth, these apocalyptic ideas have become quite popular in shows, games, and books. Within these ideas have been common themes that show what the apocalypse has done to the world and how the remnants of humanity are surviving. And usually within these shows, books, and games, there is some sort of symbolism that the creator(s) have either made blatantly easy for viewers to catch or well hidden taking a trained eye to find. Why the symbolism? Perhaps the creator(s) are wishing for the viewers to grasp and learn from the hidden meanings. The meanings may be meant to teach something valuable and maybe even prepare the viewers for a future apocalypse or prevent one.
