Tap Water Vs Bottled Water Essay
“Tap Water or Bottled Water?”

Tap water and bottled water are both good and harmful in their own ways but still we consume both everyday. Tap water is an all around better drink because it isn’t as expensive, not harmful to the environment, and not harmful to the human body. Statistics say that in 2008 they found 38 different contaminants in 10 different brands. Bottled water is also dangerous to our environment. People will not recycle the water bottles and the bottle will end up in our lakes, streams, oceans etc. and may never fully decompose. The plastic bottle is more expensive too, The United States spent 10.6 billion on the bottle, which is 1,000 times more expensive then tap.
Bottled water is extremely expensive to the U.S. We spend so much money on these a year. It's so expensive because they have to package it, test it and make sure everything is safe, then check the quality. The worse part is is that almost half the bottle water is tap water. This is a statistic from The Food and Water Watch saying,” And almost half of all bottled water (48.7 percent) came from municipal tap water supplies in 2009.” This was 6 years ago, imagine how bad it is now! Think about this next time you go to buy a package of bottled waters.

In reality bottled water is simply water. Half ,maybe even more in some cases, of all bottled water is tap water. If you think bottled water is healthy or safe to drink then you feel the same about tap. Yes, bottled water is easy to carry with you, but if you purchase a regular light weight metal or plastic water bottles that you can reuse, it is just as safe. Bottles of water are not as cheap as regular tap water. The U.S spends millions of dollar for shipping, filling, and making these bottles. Sense you are already paying for water to run throughout your house there is no reason to pay for bottled

I’ve always preferred bottled water to tap water because of the taste. Bottled water always tasted fresher and cleaner. According to document 2 it states, “Once the water enters the bottled water plant several processes are employed to ensure that it meets the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) purified water standard.” This shows that even though it tastes clean, it goes through many processes so it can meet the potential of the FDA. Unlike tap water, bottled water does not contain any chlorine. In document 1, the chart shown says tap water contains chlorine and often times fluoride. Bottled water does not have any of this, making it the safer option to drink. Although it is more expensive than tap water, it is definitely worth drinking…

Stores can remove all the bottled water from their shelves so that customers cannot purchase it. In " FDA Regulates the Safety of Bottled Water Beverages Including Flavored Water and Nutrient-Added Water Beverages", it is stated that "FDA monitors and inspects bottled water products and processing plants under its food safety program. When FDA inspects plants, the Agency verifies that the plant's product water and operational water supply are obtained from an approved source; inspects washing and sanitizing procedures; inspects bottling operations; and determines whether the companies analyze their source water and product water for contaminants." (U.S. Food and Drug Administration.). This exert goes to show that there are many aspects of the bottle water industry that are closely inspected. This insures that bottled water comes from a safe reliable source and that the places that are responsible for packaging the water is clean. This also relates back to third world countries, if you compare water from there and water that is bottled, bottled water is significantly safer. The safety of bottled water and the portability combined could take the 80% of loss of life and possibly decrease…
